My favorite city. Dropped my kid off for a camp in San Diego a few days ago, and now I’m now I’m sitting around a fire pit in Carmel by the Sea. It’s 59 degrees. Not sure just how much the “California tax” is to live here, but it absolutely has to be worth it. I’m so sick of Houston summers.

every winter I spend a few weeks in San Deigo through Palm Spring airport, 3 hours short flight to evade LA traffic is nice, my freinds there have annual pass to San Deigo zoo, they uses it as gym membership as daily walking routine

This summer I planned to go frequently on a ferry to Vancouver Island over weekends

Campbell River/Nanaimo to Victoria ,so many hidden gems with very few people. kids enjoying it ,you visit a place or two then head to unknown(unplanned) beach/lake to swim l/kayaking so far it has been fun

Victoria is beautiful. Hell, all of BC is. We once took took a ferry from prince rupert to the upper part of Vancouver island, and then drove all the way down to Victoria. The whole island is beautiful. Tofino though might be my favorite destination there. Don’t sleep on the US part of Puget sound though. It’s awesome too. Probably my most enjoyable trip in that whole puget sound/BC area was when we rented a beach house that had a kayak and crab traps. We went to local grocery stores and asked for salmon carcasses (after they filleted them). Most of the time they’d just give them to us. We’d paddle out into the sound, bait those traps with the salmon and catch more Dungeness crab than we could eat. SO MUCH FUN….and a decent workout for a fat old man. If you like oysters, there’s a ferry from Vancouver to gibsons that’s worth it. Buck bay shellfish farm on Orcas island is more than worth the pilgrimage, and probably my favorite is Hama Hama in Liliwaup WA. NONE of these places an easy to get to, and I’d make the effort to revisit them time and again.
