For the love of all that is holy will you actually consider more than just cursory information? Sure, he has a 92 OPS+ for the year, but he got off to a poor start. He has been much better recently. That 92 = 705 OPS and 97 wRC+ I don't have his OPS+ but his OPS is 763 and wRC+ is 114 since May 1st. The numbers since May 2st are just as valid and important as the numbers for the entire season. And if they get him, they are going over the CBT. Twins will pay down quite a bit of his salary but bottom line is if Crane doesn't care, why should the fans? And your trending comment is just plain wrong He had the best season of his career by wRC+ at 155. And he had 4.2 fWAR in only 86 games. He was a monster last year and is still only 30 It's all about health, not diminishing ability.
He's had a a terrible season, but Correa is still only 30 and posted a .905 OPS last season. It's reasonable to think his bat may be on decline (his range certainly is) however he's far from some lead anchor contract right now. He also has some extremely team friendly back end years on this deal. His bat could easily bounce back and be really good for a few more seasons. If the Astros asking price was half the salary and more coming our way I can't believe talks were ever that serious. It feels like an absurd request to even make.
I think its smart and probably necessary. What I will say is that the SP they usually get is someone who was not even rumored, or at the bottom of the list. Are they talking to KC about Kris Bubic?
I mean it’s a wild demand, but there had to more to this. I totally agree with you and it sounds like this deal was moving forward. I wonder if this puts pressure on the Astros to get something done… this was leaked for a reason….
Twins could and should pay about 20-30 million 50 is crazy depending on the players they are getting back , but I can understand crane asking since Correa will definitely push us into the tax and repeater tax
They will almost certainly trade him now. Getting Sears was a precursor to backfilling Cease. San Diego is trying to shed payroll while still contending, very tough needle to thread.
"Astros owner Jim Crane asked Twins management to bring their wives to the stadium and line them up so that Crane could mushroom stamp each of them while their friends and family watched."
It's even more likely they deal Cease now after acquiring a starter and Mason Miller. Suarez is probably being traded as well.
Usually Nightengale is good for the Astros, word is he has a direct relationship with Crane. Might not be a coincidence that this was leaked with 6 hours left. But depending on what the return going back to Minny was that would have been robbery by Houston.
