Makes sense if Padres are requiring Caratini or Diaz in a deal for Cease.

Dana Brown loves his former top prospects/draft picks.

And Bart has a 150 wRC+ vs LHP so can at least be a positive matchup.

Maybe Nook is quicker to some info I haven’t seen, but I think Nook is just laughing at news that Bart’s name has come up as a trade deadline player of interest in the league at all. Catcher position, so if it was The Stros, would probably signal Diaz, maybe Caratini, involved in another deal

Surprised to see Manning get DFA'd. I figured they could find a trade for him.

Honestly, yordan is super underrated as a LF . I understand keeping him at DH for health , but at this point his hands are breaking down even when all he does is swing . Let the man run and get some blood flow into his hands ;)

Plus , with altuve splitting time there it's not like he will play everyday so wear and tear shouldn't be a factor.

Paredes I wouldn't be worried about . Dude should have surgery and with proper rehab he can get 80 percent back .

Good chance to remake his body

I've watched Alcantara pretty carefully this year (I own him in my fantasy league). He's unquestionably an adventure.

First the bad: He's not missing enough bats (chase rate is down) and he's putting WAY too many people on base. Those are lethal combinations.

Now, the good: a better defense might clean some of his messes. He still throws hard. Getting him with our staff likely corrects any issues and maximizes what he still does well.

He's signed for one more year (IIRC) - and this is his first-post surgery season so some of those issues may just be that he's not fully back. Also, you can't discount the possible lift of getting out of a baseball dead zone like Miami and into a playoff chase.

I would be REALLY excited if they landed Alcantara. Much better option than Cease - whose results are very similar to Alcantara - he just doesn't have the track record.

There it is? Did you really think Paredes had any chance of returning this season prior to this news?

    Thanks. Poor grammar

I meant Brown "likes him some former. . . "

They have known about this basically since the injury happened.

The earliest they thought he would be physically able to do anything on the field would have been late September, and that would mean he wasn't in shape and had not swung a bat in months.

It sucks - but it isn't new.

Pena is playing very well in the minors and will be back shortly.

Meyers is more of a concern and Yordan is the huge wild card.

Walker is hitting better - Pena is back and the Astros will try very hard to add another starting bat.

At the end of the day the back bone of the team is pitching and defense, and Brown and Murphy and Miller know that - which is why they traded for a very good defensive player yesterday and they have been targeting a top tier starting pitcher for 6 weeks.

The Astros want him - again; and are trying to get a deal done for him as of a couple of hours ago.

I like Bart. He’d need to be paired with another decent catcher but he’s got value.

The only thing that surprised me about this was that it was released today and not after the trade deadline.

Also why I don't think anything about Meyers has been released yet.

Nothing has been officially released. It's an insider; the Astros have not said anything publicly.

I think Bart actually has quite a bit of value for the next few seasons, he gets on base.

However I see very little use for him this season on a team with Diaz and Caratini.

Have a feeling its going to be just Urias and handicap bros coming back in August. I know thats not too sexy, but I guess it isnt terrible.

This seems ... weird. Of all the positions of need, C isn't one of them. The only logical reason to make this trade is if you're trading one of your other catchers - Cease makes sense since SD is trying to compete and needs offense at C.

But for a team that has two aces and lots of SPs coming back and no offense, weakening the offense further at the one stable position they have to get more SP seems counterproductive - unless you know you have top-tier bats coming in also.

Yes it is, but I highly doubt we're done.
