Floating the Carlos Correa stuff out there just to go get Ramon Urias. Versatility guy that has solid defense but a bat worse than Dubon’s. Hopefully just a depth move
Agree completely that JV needs to be a what rhe hell type deal to come be 5th starter and maybe a bullpen guy in the playoffs. I don’t think the giants would trade him somewhere he didn’t want to go. I don’t think he’d want to go many places other than here and Detroit. would the Giants do Alexander and Whitcomb for JV and cash you think? There’s almost no doubt in my mind they’d do Gusto or Gordon but that seems like too much. the giants have played like **** and are probably selling guys with no runway beyond this year/ but I could see them wanting to get a JAG they could run out there every 5th day to replace JV’s innings in case they got hot. I suspect it’s basically a courtesy they move him. Houston and Detroit are about the only places it makes sense to me from his perspective.
Getting Urias doesn’t stop the Astros from acquiring Correa, if Crane green lights it. Urias is a backup caliber player. Correa is an impact bat if he’s right. This probably affects the Astros’ pursuit of Willy Castro more than anything.
@Snake Diggit you seem pretty excited about this deadline like you think we are going to really improve ourselves. I hope you are right. Doesn’t feel that way right now to me. more getting late early. I’m fine at the end of the day if we just don’t do anything because it’s too hard to gauge what’s going on with all the health. Hell, I’d be fine selling. The only thing that will piss me off is if we trade Ullola or Arrighetti for a rental- I don’t care how good he is they can’t go out for a rental. Anything else seems fun.
Urias is fine. It also makes it possible to trade Dubon to the Padres in a Cease deal. You have same amount of club control (through 26) less versatility in that he hasn’t played OF but can play any IF, better career bat. Less career bat this year. or- it means Melton could definitely be ticketed to San Diego and Dubon is your new CF until Jake gets back. Add in Correa and I’d be feeling pretty good but we’d have managed to get even more right handed. Dana loves LHRP and right handed hitters apparently. Or, maybe it’s a really boring move and he’s your every day 3B and Jimbo stays under the luxury tax. I hope we didn’t give up anyone better than Blubaugh or Gordon or something like that.
Boring deadline: Urias is the new 3B, they will add a SP and that’s it. Exciting deadline: Urias is so they can trade Dubon, they are getting both Cease and Correa, and potentially another LH bat and RH RP.
This is the kid of deal I like on an emotional level. I didn’t get infatuated with Twine Palmer, nor did the prospect rankers.
