I was a big fan of the original series, didn't even know this was in the works but pleased to hear it.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the original series, even after they had to switch actors because of Andy's unfortunate illness/death. But this kind of feels like them trying to cash in on that success way too late. It may be good, but not a lot in that trailer got me excited. I also don't have access to Starz so I probably won't catch this one unless people are really singing its praises.

Sadly, out of every add on service I pay for STARZ is not one of those. Probably the only one. Hell, I even have Britbox and Acorn.

Looks like another soap opera but at least it's set in Rome and I think about Rome a lot.

    Can’t ****ing wait

absolutely loved the old show (Blood and Sand & Gods of the Arena being the obvious standouts)

Agreed that I can’t imagine banking on such an old and not super well known show. But my old roommates from college and I will be thrilled.

was curious until I saw they were trying to push a female gladiator. Lets be real...in the context of the original spartacus.

I have no idea why they go for this bullshit DEI spin on sequels, its never actually good

There were female gladiators in Ancient Rome, called Gladiatrices.

Many ancient societies had female warriors.

Take that tired anti-woke bullshit to the man-o-sphere incel circle jerk reddit subforums.

I literally said in the context of a show like Spartacus which if you’ve seen this is completely nonsensical for. Female gladiators also weren’t housed in a den frat house full of other naked dudes. It’s a trend in Hollywood and we know exactly why. Gladiator 2 is calling you.

Youre being disingenuous trying to cry identity politics for faux outrage . I’m sure you really loved the force awakens and the rise of skywalker…it has nothing to do with the BS strawman you are alluding to.

I'm not being disingenuous or sarcastic here. Who knows how the female gladiators were treated or housed? I wasn't even thinking about where she would be housed, just that they existed. In the context of the Gladiator series, who knows? Maybe it works. I just won't pre-judge. Maybe I'll watch it and agree that it was just some stunt to bring in a different demo. I'll gladly say that if I believe it.

As for faux outrage.... I'm just absolutely sick of the WOKE! or DEI! fallback 'argument'. Be smarter in your statements. South Park nailed it: Woke is dead. I think you can do better.

Force Awakens wasn't bad, but Gladiator 2 fell prey to Ridley Scott's tendency to make a movie that's too long then have to cut important scenes to make a theatrical run resulting in a poor product. The characters were all one-dimensional and flat. It ended up being a formulaic soap opera and all logic is out the window in that type of production. Too bad.

I have no issues with a strong, badass female character as long as it's an organic fit for a story. I won't deny that Disney tried to shoehorn it in to every production for a while and it was a bad look. Sometimes women and men really are weak and useless; let's be realistic with that in our media.

I have certain criticisms of the DEI/woke stuff...but way way milder on the spectrum (i'm not one of those folks from the D&D)

My criticism is directed to hollywood specifically. The things I mentioned are often used to bandaid or cover for terrible writing and quick cash grabs. That's really why I am opposed to the blanket "You're anti DEI or diversity!" crowd. It shuts down all discussion and enables these corporations giving us terrible product year in and out.

This may be a good show and I'm wrong, but over the past couple of years there has been. a specific trend in rehashing old shows/movies with lazy writing/acting/production and the only caveat being they swapped out characters of different backgrounds.

You aren’t wrong about Hollywood being lazy/formulaic. With big data, everything copies trends until they’re ground down and everyone is sick of them. Boring!

I’m zero tolerance on the Anti-Woke! Bullshit. It’s just so ****ing tired. Apologies for coming back hard on you. I know that’s not your usual MO, which is why you’re not on my ignore list, my dude.

I'm surprised this was made. It had interest during the original run for Spartacus. The actor is pretty old now as the original run was 10+ years ago. I'll probably check it out. Spartacus was a surprise hit.
