I actually think Pena was morphing into that guy… and probably can be that guy. Altuve leads by example in how he carries himself/etc., and players can learn from that…. But not sure how much they can ‘feed’ off of it. Regardless, I don’t want the virtues or myths of “clubhouse leadership” to be litigated here ad nauseam… obviously this team wasn’t lacking a leader when they were going 29-10…. But sometimes it does give the necessary jolt that goes beyond random series in July.
Sure - and one car wreck can cause death. But seatbelts, airbags, and all the other safety mechanisms can reduce risk. Same with CTE. Players today have better information on the risks they are taking and there are more safety measures being taken to protect them as best as possible in inherently dangerous situations. This convo started because of the idea that years ago, teams might have drugged up Pena and told him he was fine and to play through pain. We don't do those things and more because we're not as stupid and player unions and media coverage have pushed us in a direction where we don't let teams abuse their players as much anymore.

I expect everybody back in August except Paredes, Meyers, and the guys who are out until 2026 or later. I think Paredes and Meyers have a chance to come back in time for the playoffs but it’s questionable, probably less than 50/50.
I just dont get posters falling in love with the idea of bringing back Correa/JV? They're both shells of what they used to be. The only guy I didn'y want them to let go was CFM. I'd buy that guy a beer if I saw him today.
JV is cooked but Correa is still a superstar player, just with massive injury risk. Correa is only 30. The only area where he is showing true physical decline is defensive range, and if Houston trades for him it will be for him to play 3B (or 2B) where range is less important. His contact ability, bat speed, and power are still there. If Minnesota is willing to eat enough of his contract and take back a reasonable return to account for Correa’s contract and injury risk, he would be a great addition, even without considering his impact on the clubhouse or fanbase.
That doesn't mean the impact on the body is any different. In a lot of ways 3B is tougher But whatever yall decide to do, I'm all for it.
Except you can’t trust anything they say about injuries so it’s all a total guess Good thing is they have a way better idea than what they release obviously, and that will play a huge role in the next 4 days
I would love to have Carlos back Injust think it’s unrealistic because if Minn does it it’s because they want to save money, and for us we would want them to eat a lot of money so we can dodge the tax And if they did eat money the prospect cost would be huge AND we would have no room for other additions It’s just very likely way too much to do overcome even without talking about who goes their way
He's hitting like .250 and we know with his injury issues he's not going to age well. (Back issues never go away)
We don’t know if his previous back injury was part of a degenerative condition or not. Correa’s been hurt enough that he carries massive injury risk regardless of what any current medicals might show. But that’s why Houston is even within fantasy’s reach of getting him (and at $110M instead of $300M), plus his guaranteee contract only takes him to his age 34 season; if those vesting options become guaranteed, it’ll be because he stayed healthy and productive and they are a huge bargain.
