I’d just play melton every day in CF until he ***** the bed but good or Meyers comes back. Matthew’s would play every day for me until Peña comes back and then I’d reevaluate.
Trammell is playing too well to sit. Who knows how long that’ll last but for now he has to be out there.
Sullivan finished with three hits and drove in three. In addition to the homer, he also had an RBI single and an RBI double. Zach Cole doubled twice and scored twice... his first double drove in two runs. Ethan Pecko, Tyler Guilfoil, and Anderson Bido combined on a shutout as Corpus romped to an 11-0 win. Pecko allowed four hits, walked one, and struck out six in five innings.
Raimy Rodriguez @ Fredericksburg: 4 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 3 K A good little rebound outing after he got smacked for 5 runs (4 earned) in the first start of his 20s last weekend.
I would bring up Melton and play him and Trammell every day vs RHP until Yordan is back Altuve really should be the DH at this point but generally speaking he can't because we have Yordan there. But we don't An OF of Melton, Trammell and Cam is pretty elite defensively, and as long as Melton and Trammel hit RHP at a decent level that's our best case right now. Chas and Altuve can play out there vs LHP
What's the chance that Sullivan shoots up the prospect lists with the next big update, which most update shortly after the trade deadline and draft His numbers seem way better than his ranking, he seems to have a solid approach, and from everything i've read he is a plus defender
He needs to get to 150+ dominant pa in AA before he will start showing up on top 100 lists. Right now he put himself on the radar by piling up walks, steals, and homers in High A, but his 27% k rate there was a yellow flag. Over his small sample in AA so far he has a 30% k rate against a 5% bb rate, but with huge power. If he finishes the season with a >140 wRC+ in AA he will probably get quite a bit of hype going into next season.
Astros made a couple of free agent signings: RHP Cody Bolton was once a top pitching prospect for the Pirates, but he hasn't been able to hold down a consistent role in the big leagues. Bolton made his MLB debut in 2023 with the Pirates and appeared in 17 games for the Mariners last season. Bolton started this year at AAA Tacoma before he was DFA'd and then traded to Cleveland for cash in April. He's made one MLB appearance for the Guardians this year, but has spent much of this year on the IL. The Guardians designated him for assignment on May 31 and released him on June 6. OF Jacob Hurtubise is the first big leaguer from the United States Military Academy. The Mariners originally drafted him in the 39th round in 2019, but he wound up signing with the Reds as an undrafted free agent in 2020. Hurtubise went 1-12 in 12 games with the Reds this season. He has spent time in AAA in the Reds and Mariners systems this year. Both players are in the FCL but they'll most likely join Sugar Land in a few days. With the current health crisis, they might even be needed in Houston for a spell.
Hurtubise was in SL last night. I happened to look at the boxscore last night and had to look him up.
He can't move up my list much. Player 1 Xavier Neyens* 2 Joseph Sullivan 3 Anderson Brito 4 Walker Janek 5 Ethan Pecko 6 Kevin Alvarez 7 Brice Matthews 8 Jase Mitchell* 9 Alonzo Tredwell 10 Bryce Mayer
I like high school catchers generally. I like Mitchell specifically because I think he has a good chance to stick at the position, he is going to hit with a good amount of power, he has a strong and accurate arm, I hope to enjoy watching him develop over the next four or five years, perhaps more than any pick from this draft. This draft was 25% (high risk, high reward) prep players. That represents a new attitude towards the draft for Houston.. It will be a longer time before we know the results but I like the attitude. There are interesting players top to bottom and even a couple of the UDFA players seem like interesting selections. Favorite Five 1 Xavier Neyens* IF, 3rd base 2 Jase Mitchell* Versatile C, IF & OF corners 3 Landon Arroyos IF. SS 4 Gabel Pentecost RH SP 5 Elijah Farley* OF, CF or RF Three Sleepers 1 Ryan Petrovitch RH SP, High School UDFA 2 Curtis Hebert Super utility player (perhaps a Dubon replacement?) 3 Justin Thomas OF, CF or RF (my usual 11th round sleeper pick) Do you have any favorites from this draft?
Frey (Who I've seen( The pitcher who throws 100 (Name escapes me but I've read about him.) Newman (Who I've read about.)
Neyens, Frey, and Mitchell will make up the bulk of the value from this draft. I like Potter from the pitching side.
