A dumb way to view it? The cavaliers are & were a very good team & supercharged their rebuild with Mobley Im supposed to apologize for saying the Rockets 20 & 40 win seasons were worse than their 50&60 win ones? I mean it's just...true. Also f-k you for disrespecting the NBA cup. Hater.
We also most likely: Do not bench John Wall, and he starts with Gordon at the 2 and KPJ at the 3. Sure, we may have sucked enough to still draft Jabari, but we likely wouldn't have drafted any of Banchero/Chet/Bari with Mobley as our new "Franchise centrepiece" at the 4. Let's assume we still sucked enough to get a top 5 pick, the only player who went in the top 5 (remember, we have hindsight now but we're talking at the time) who wasn't a PF was Jaden Ivey (read:lesser version of Jalen Green.) So let's assume we still suck with the Silas and Wall/Mobley Rockets repeating the tank for the 3rd year. Are you convinced we're still drafting Amen or Scoot with Wall still likely as our main "vet star?" I don't see it. Any way I look at it the team now is better than if we drafted Mobley.
That's why these questions and wishful thinking about the past makes no sense and have no purpose. Let's focus on the current and be excited about the future.
What are your sources? Fans and podcasts aren’t sources. They’re subjective opinions and most of the time not factual. I’m only going by what news articles state and how contracts in sports work. He was allowed to get 25% of salary cap and he had a strong 22-23 season. No one offers a contract without due diligence. Stone is a lawyer and has had a lot of experience working with the management team to acquire and sign players for a long time since the Morey years. There’s no reason to not believe an industry professional didn’t do his homework when signing a player.
Who are my sources? Heavy Investment in Kevin Porter Jr Raises Questions About Future of Rockets For one What is your source that the Rockets got a good 'market' deal on Kpj?
I read this already. Where does it say that the Rockets didn’t do their due diligence in signing him as you claim? Where does it say that 15.9 mil was not his market value and where does it say what the Rockets reasoning or how they came about the numbers negotiated? This is not a source. There’s no news of information about the deal as you claim. Its an opinion piece by a writer questioning the deal.
Here is my truth. (You can share in it as well). Stone has done some amazing things over the years. No matter who is around him he will continue to do amazing things. He had been more lucky than good overall. The KPJ/Green days were purposeful because it leads us to today. Yes the Mobley Rockets would look much different but Stone would make it work in a different way. That is why I am a Rocket fan, not the collective of NBA players that work for the Houston affiliate.
I like how things have worked out. Hindsight is always fun, but you get into the whole butterfly effect thing. If you re-drafted that draft now, just based on production not team need, what would it look like? Here it is ranked by WS (gotta rank it by something), pretty big dropoff b/t Mobley at 1 and Sengun at 2 https://www.basketball-reference.com/draft/NBA_2021.html
I mean going forward of course you would, but you'd say the same thing if the Rockets had Mobley & Mitchell. It's fine to admit Cleveland is good. Ok so you say Clutch is lying or wrong orf whatever - since you're kpj's defense attorney, what is your source that, nah he was just misunderstood and is a good NBA starter level player or (lol)" Stones Harden deal" or that teams were in any way shape or form eager to hand him $100 million? Subsequent events seem to have proven this view - spectacularly wrong!
Kpjr very valuable to the rebuild Helped us lose a ton of games to stay in top 3 worst record to max lottery odds We needed all those empty stats and bonehead plays he kept making while missing guys wide open for easy looks U need to recognize stones genius in all this....
I never said any of that. I said they likely paid him market value. Also this takes into account what the agent negotiated. The salary cap for 23-24 was 136 million. Max rookie contract would be 34 mil (25%) He got 15.9 a little less than half the max which was what they negotiated and agreed on. According to sport trac he also only got 4 years 63.4 mil. That’s his avg a year. Likely this was what teams would pay him after a decent potential filled 22-23 season.
and the facts are they are the best and second best in that draft based on the metric you are touting p***y
Uhhhh, right? I think you may misunderstand what I was talking about. Wasn't that either was a better pick than the other. And that's ok. c******ker? (did I spell that correctly?)
I think Stone has been extremely lucky but he has also been really good. He is both lucky and good not more lucky than good. More lucky than good is Nico Harris and Lakers GM. Stone has done a lot of good moves like Harden trade, Suns trade, the FVV contract, KD trade and Sengun/Jalen/Jabari extensions.
