I was 99% for Mobley over Green. But if the Rockets had drafted Mobley, Sengun likely would be on the Thunder or some other team.
Unless somebody can talk me into believing we'd still have traded for Sengun, I don't know if I'd change anything. I don't know if I'd pick Franz Wagner or Scottie Barnes either. I will say, if we had ended up with Mobley + Sengun + Cam Thomas or Quentin Grimes, then still drafted Amen and Jabari, that is a hell of a young core. That's making a lot of questionable assumptions about what the front office would do though.
If they had drafted Mobley and still grabbed Alpi in the trade at 16 then they would of made the playoffs much sooner. Saying that I highly doubt they make the Alpi trade if they drafted Mobley so I am fine with the way it worked out. One x-factor that would have impeded them regardless was keeping the tank commander Silas on the bench. Silas would screw up the Dream Team.
What do you mean? We just got KD. Actually this is yet another reason to prefer the current timeline as we wouldnt get KD with Mobley, too much money tied to Mobley to do the trade unless Sengun is the sacrifice.
you wont get Jabari and Amen as you are making the playoffs immediately with Mobley Sengun and Cam/Grimes.
I'm not sure those guys (as rookies/second year players) get a team to the playoffs in the stacked West, but very good point--it would almost certainly negatively impact our draft position those two years. So yeah I probably wouldn't change anything TBH.
I know the Cavs flamed out in the playoffs but they've won 207 games since 2021 to the Rockets' 135 and have won 2 playoff series. Though, the Rockets did win West Group A and make the IST Final Four for the NBA Cup last year. Us Cupheads remember.
Scottie Barnes has never won DPOY. Matter of fact, he has the same number of DPOY votes in his career as I do: zero.
Never forget that Stonetitta watched a few years of KPJ dealt with a number of incidents Still decided to be in the KPJ business negotiated against themselves, gave him a not small money (at the time) extension And were then liberated from their own mistake by a very bad night out in NYC by KPJ
During the tank years, especially year 1 and year 2, most folks (here and on Rockets local media) all firmly said Best Player Available (BPA). The receipts are there. So if the BPA were Mobley, Sengun, and later Jabari, then you take them. The thing about 'if we drafted player X, then we wouldn't have gotten Y in that same year (or the following year: Tari/Bari)', is some hindsight revisions. Because if you do it, then that would not be BPA; but drafting for positional fit. On some of these retro-looks: you have to be honest with your past self. Issue boils down to some fans (and Stone) just guessed wrong on who the BPA was for the #2 pick. That's not a crime, people guess wrong all the time in drafts. If team was operating under BestPlayerAvailable and you thought Mobley was better, then you take Mobley, before all these butterfly effect happen. That's the answer to this thread.
