Actually, all their bank accounts would be drained to $0 if they wanted to paid what they're worth. The league has lost atleast $10 million a year since it's inception, so they are over $300-400 million dollars in the red and have been subsidized by the NBA. So once that is paid back, they can start to talk about "sustainability". It's kinda hilarious being a lesbian means the rules don't apply to you and they apply fivefold for everyone else.

More naive activists pretending they understand valuations...

A new owner (someone who bought right at or after the Clark bump), even with the new media deal, are 15 years out from being profitable. That is in addition to the WNBA being $400 million in the red to the NBA which they will porbably pay back by the end of the century These valuations are highly inflated based on projected growth in 15 years-20 years and the ability to market that. That's still a massive risk the owner is taking on as interest could have just peaked with the Clark explosion. The end product is still incredibly boring.

I think one of the Analyst point out that saying OWE was really turning people off
    That it sounde so entitled
Made me think about how much BRANDING and MARKETING play in so many stages of our lives
The wrong word usage could be the difference between a promotion and getting fired

I say that to say this
    I think he is right
I don't think the Player are doing themselves many favors
Some NBA fans never came back after the Strike season
MY NFL Fandom has not been the same since the Oilers left
though I like the Texans . . .. its just different

Angel Reese being the villian is ok . . . i mean . . . this is WWE style marketing to me
    but
You cannot have a league of villians

Let me know when they can beat an average high school boys basketball team and then maybe we can talk. The league literally loses millions of dollars a year. They're lucky they aren't working at IHOP.

Ability vs. men is not the argument.

You don't get paid for being good, you get paid for being entertaining.

What the WNBA lacks in athleticism it needs to make up for in other ways.

It needs marketable (and yes that includes sex appeal) performers and compelling stories.

Instead the WNBA has this 'born on third base but thinks they hit a triple' mentality.

They act entitled and resentful, rather than grateful they're even allowed to exist, let alone by subsidy.

Meanwhile, the first true needle-mover the league has had since its inception is getting treated like **** and brutalized every night.

River said it well, you need villains, but not ALL villains. Truly a bucket full of crabs.

You need another transcendent player to make a Magic vs Bird dynamic. I don’t know what that would need to be and it likely won’t happen.

For a while I thought that was the Caitlin versus Angel angle
    but
It doesn't seem to be effective

If she had a better shot it would be definitely something there. She has the looks that’s for sure.

A big part is their stupid insistence on not lowering the rim. They already play with a smaller ball but think it’s some kind of insult when people tell them their sport would be more entertaining with such changes

Part of that is a practical concern.

Basketball goals are a uniform height in most of the world.

Having to set up separate goals or adjustable goals just for women's basketball would hurt adoption.

That’s a good point, but it boils down to this.

    It’s entertainment.

If your product is not entertaining, people will not watch or buy it. If they don’t buy it you won’t collect revenue. One of the reasons basketball at the professional level is entertaining is because you have freak athletes. They are approaching this at a significant disadvantage by playing on a setup that was adapted for men. It’s a once a year thing when a WNBA player successfully dunks the ball. That should tell you enough

if they made a new rule that WNBA players could duke it out like hockey it would be 100x more entertaining and more people would watch. That’s an extreme hypothetical but you get my point. Something has to be done to make their sport more entertaining

How is franchise valuation at an all time high when outside Caitlin Clark no one watches or attends? Multiple cities including Houston bid on a team.

It’s crazy that the Comets just folded because no one wanted to buy them.

The WNBA back in the day
was a good Summer Sport for me to watch
Now - not so much. I don't know the players
    I don't keep up . . .
I put it on the level of Summer League in the NBA
I might catch 5 or 10 minutes here or there

    I just have no interest
Just like I have no interest in Baseball

Simply put - they making good progress it seems
but there not quite where they need to be

I was listening to a show on the radio right after and that was the sentiment, get the fans and public behind you, the phrasing was not good............not sure if true but it was hatched with only about half the Woman according to the show I listened to

I want the sport to succeed and the women to get paid but you don't want to come off as smug and entitled

Not sure why you bring the USWNT into this. They generate as much revenue as the men do. They also win…like a lot. They absolutely deserved better pay and conditions.
