Dana has been mostly good with talent evaluation so far, if Matthews hits it’ll validate him a ton more.

Brice is everything they expected him to be. A very high ceiling player that has a low floor. If he learns to make contact consistently, he will be a star. If he doesn't, he won't last long in the league.

If he has enough glove to be a plus defender (he's got the agility and arm), it won't matter how much he strikes out as long as he gets on base a bit. And hits for power. And takes some free bases. There's no reason a guy like that can't be a part of your lineup.

Astros have been amongst the best teams since 2012 developing their own farm system, with those players going on to be extremely valuable contributors in the Major League level.

It starts by identifying talent in the draft, international guys, folks on other teams minor league that are undervalued.

    Yes,
Farm club evaluators hate our org.
They just don't get our methodology.

Not that many can hit the ball at 108 mph consistently when they make contact.

The Kyle Schwarber mentality. Doesn't hit the ball often, but when he does, it's very nice.

Better than good, he's been great and for a long time. It's the reason he got the job.

As it relates to the Astros he’s been good so far with a chance to be great depending on how these drafts play out. He had a big win getting Smith and Parades, 2 potential young core players with control and did a great job identifying Kikuchi and Caratini. In order for me to consider him great, he’ll need to keep building the team around young talent and hit big on a couple players the way he did Austin Riley and Spencer Strider. Think we need more time to see how it plays out, but there’s reasons to be optimistic.

Glad he showed some big pop

If he keeps hitting it very hard when he hits it , that should change how pitchers approach him and lead to more walks since he has pretty good plate discipline

Yep, a Justin Upton type bat at 2B is an all star.

Yep, but the Stros farm system is weak seems to be the narrative. Never mind the fact that most of the AAA talent has moved up to MLB and is what's keeping the Stros within 2 games of the best record in MLB.

    You forgot:

He saw Ronel Blanco as a starter and directed that change.

He has completely rebuilt a great bullpen from castoffs.

True, he didn’t bring Blanco to the org though and Click regime was similarly good at building dominant bullpen. As I’ve said, I think he’s been good and maybe great depending on how his picks turn out. I’ll hold off on saying he’s been great already because my bar for that is being able to build a long term contender by identifying and developing young cost controlled players that perform at star value.

My view is there is more to being a goid GM than just bringing players into the organization.

Click had opportunity to try Blanco as a starter. Blanco may have been another AAAA up and down then DFA'd guy without Brown's direction.

Then again, maybe he would still have 2 elbows.
