You actually have two court days to file charges. More than 24 hours pass without charges being filed all the time. People get arrested the day before thanksgiving and have to be charged by the following Tuesday (six day later). When an arrest is made, it takes time for a report to be written, get sergeant approval, be submitted to the District Attorney's office, scanned and uploaded to the system, three new steps here - run through the AI to redact racially identifying information, assigned to a charging deputy for blind review, blind reviewed, actually reviewed, authorized, typed, submitted to the court, and accepted for filing.
