It's really pretty normal. Tigers have lost 6 in a row. Dodgers just lost 7 in a row and are 2-8 in their last 10. Phillies lost 9-of-10 earlier this season. Blue Jays lost 8 of 9 at one point. Cubs never had quite that bad a stretch, but they've had several bad ones. Along with the Astros, those are all of your current division leaders. These things happen over a baseball season. To every team, every year.
No Alvarez, Pena, Meyers, Paredes Four starters in the line up out Garcia, Javier, Arrighetti, Blanco, Wiesniewski all out Five starting pitchers out. Most the bench and middle reliever Dubin out too.
Rodgers was starting when he got knocked out. Even though an offensive non factor, he is a gold glover. And a good defense covered up some of the pitchers' mistakes... Depth pieces such as Dezenzo, Guillorme, Melton, France also gone... I suspect Short is more hurt than they expect at this point as well...
