Rodgers suffered a concussion and a nasal fracture in his rehab game last tonight. Him and the SS were going for a grounder and both collided.
Atleast we might be breaking some records in history books. From being in div lead with +5 games at AS break to should be sellers at trade deadline? Can't be done many times before. Stop using Neris and stop using Hader for 2 innings. Soon we don't have closer for 1inn in 9th either.
Kind of feels like we are hardcore ****ed now. Way too many injuries and not enough bullets to trade for replacements
We’ve lost Yordan Peña Meyers Paredes And for each one we have ZERO clue on when or if they’ll be back. We won’t be able to sustain this. Seattle will pass us up I fear. Our lineup just can’t compete with all the injuries.
Here is the reality Even with those guys we are middle of the pack offensively. Diaz and Walker can't keep hitting with an OPS in the 600's. If both of them will hit like they are capable, we can still be mid to low mid on offense We are 14 games over .500 because of Hunter and Framber, plain and simple. Games started by Hunter Brown we are 13-6 Games started by Framber Valdez we are 14-5 (won 12 straight) Games started by all others we are 29-31. We have 11 straight games between now and trade deadline day which we are off that day If they both stay on regular 4 days rest, Hunter will get 3 Starts, today then home games vs West Sacramento and Washington Framber will get tomorrow @ Arizona and a home game vs West Sacramento We need to go at least 4-1 in those 5 games, and if one of those wins is today we would still get to the deadline in 1st place. Even going 2-4 in the other 6 games means a 6-5 run to the deadline Now, whether or not we have the bullets to fire off a SP and at least one Bat is anyone's guess
I appreciate your posts, particularly stuff like this. I know baseball is a marathon but I usually don’t think about the season in large enough chunks of time. Truly depressed about the Paredes injury.
How much more rope are th Astros going to give LMJ? A very sad question to ask. LMJ as is is not replacement level.
Tigers are 24-10 (27-11 for Brown & Framber) in games started by Skubal and Mize, 34-30 in games from other starters, it's not that unusual.
The fact that it happened on a ground ball and not with an OFer going back on a popup makes this injury very emblematic of the season so far.
Exactly - that's the whole point of having aces. The Framber/Brown results are less interesting than the fact that the Astros are managing to play 0.500 ball with a bunch of nobodies starting the rest of their games (and with a depleted offense). If the Astros get players back, they'll be fine. If they don't, no amount of trade deadline bandaids are going to help them win a WS. They lost a game in extra innings yesterday with their worst SP having a bad night, their best pitcher blowing a lead in the 8th and their closer giving up a fluke run in the 10th. It sucks that they lost, but it's not a sky-is-falling moment.
Who else would you like them to have used yesterday in those situations? Hader was a fluke hit away from closing out the game.
Sure - but that's a sunk cost at that point and not an option. In the moment, what other options were there? But beyond that, Gusto might be starting in the next couple of days so it might have been his bullpen day and they just threw him out for an inning? No idea who they plan to use in their rotation against Arizona.
If that’s true, coming out of the break, it’s horrible planning Any start from Lance, Gusto or Gordon should have one of the others from that group ready to provide some innings if the one starting doesn’t, which is about a 50/50 proposition with any of them. Everything can be set like you want it coming out of the break, so just awful planning…or Gusto was in a position to go multiple and Joe got too into the lefty righty crap early in a game and it cost us later
Gusto needed to go longer regardless of if he was planned on starting later in the week. Later in the week you can make an adjustment and bring Alexander up if needed.
Officially: Paredes to IL, Salazar optioned; Singleton and Whitcomb called up. Rodgers to the 60-day IL I had forgotten Salazar was on the team.
