[Poll] Do you believe in Reed Sheppard?

Discussion in 'Houston Rockets: Game Action & Roster Moves' started by MystikArkitect, Jul 15, 2025 at 11:25 AM.

?

Do you believe in Reed Sheppard?

  1. Yes. He needs more reps with real NBA players and more development in general.

  2. Yes but he's a little behind where I'd prefer him to be right now.

  3. No he's too small and physically limited for the NBA game we should've picked someone else.

  4. No he's not as good of a shooter as people think he is.

Good video. Detroit fielded a team of try-hards whose sole game plan was to stop Reed, especially after another big game against the Clips. Daniss Jenkins NEEDED to make a statement if he hoped for a shot at the NBA roster (6 hard fouls!!). I don’t care what kind of progress Reed has made, results in an actual NBA game with ANY semblance of shooters/screeners/guys who can run a set play would’ve yielded a wildly different result. Worth noting, it would appear that Rio Grande is bereft of talent. Yuck. Do better Stone at identifying fringe players to develop!!

I don't know where he will end up, but his elite shooting will always give him a place.

His dribbling is too robotic and too much out front of his body he needs to angle it and dribble it off to his side with his other shoulder in the chest of the defender to stop the reaching.

He has to get better at ball handling to ever become what he could become.

If he does that - Steve Nash, or Mark Price is his ceiling.

If Reed Sheppard was that guy. I feel like he should've dominated summer league. I know it was only 2 games but, after those 2 games, I couldn't justify why he didn't play more in the summer. With Jabari, Tari Eason, and even Cam Whitmore. I walked away saying these guys are too good for the summer league.

You might know this (unclear based on how I'm reading this), but Reed was held out because of his (minor) calf injury (from the end of the first game I think?), not because he played so well that the team didn't need to see more. They apparently wanted him to play the first 4 games at least. Having said that, he definitely didn't wow people, especially with that 2nd game, and that doesn't really change the main point you're making.

I will add that Cam Whitmore kinda stunk his last game of last year's summer league, which a lot of people seem to forget. 1/15 in 30 minutes (also against the Pistons!), though he did have 5 assists, which for Cam is pretty amazing. And to be clear, I am/was a Cam fan. His first 2 games were really good, and he definitely helped Reed out in those games (or they helped each other).

I agree with what your saying. It's just seeing something, and this is based off of my eye test. I like Reed, I think he is a good shooter with potential. I also know he was playing with the bottom tier guys that would probably be playing at an all pro rec league. I was just disappointed in what I saw. It's kind of like the Lakers were disappointed with Dalton Knecht. I was more impressed with Chandler based off of my eye test. Wouldn't mind if they gave him a 2 way contract. I think Cam was the mvp of the summer league 1 year, which doesn't say much though. It's just me looking at certain players and walking away and saying that kid has it. No stats, just watching.

That's a completely reasonable take. I mostly just wanted to chime in on why Reed didn't play more than 2 games (and possibly why he sucked in G2, though I think only so much can be attributed to his injury). Pretty sure if he was healthy, he would have played more games (whether he had good games or bad ones). It sounded like the main goal of the summer league was to give Reed some reps to grow and further evaluate him.

I quit watching after G2 (and I honestly stopped at some point in that game), but yeah Chandler looked OK to me. Maybe the best on the team. Probably a little too small, but I did like what he showed. If I'm being honest, I don't think any of the SL guys really looked that good to warrant NBA time.

And yeah I just threw in the Cam stuff as a point of comparison. In fact, looking at the stats again, I forgot Cam actually did worse his 2nd SL compared to his 1st (where he got the MVP). I suppose mostly because of one terrible game...sorta like Reed honestly (Reed was one of the best players in his first SL stint IMO). I don't know if any of that means anything though...maybe Reed will net 2 2nd rd picks in another year? :/

Have there been trade rumors? Please tell me there has. They need to hurry up. Reeds inconsistencies are tanking his value. At this point hes not even worth a 1st rd pick.

The trade rumors were that a lot of teams want him, but the Rockets were unwilling to consider it at all.

They were only willing to get rid of awful players like Jalen Green and Cam Whitmore who have no future.

So what you’re saying is he can’t dribble or create for himself, but he can shoot. So he’s a PG that needs others to create offense for him ?

I believe in every Rocket until they are traded or let go in free agency. Then, they're dead to me.

I'll just go ahead and say this right now . . . DMo is the greatest Rocket of all time. Bar none. Change my mind.

IDK, Sergio Llull might be a greater Rocket than DMo.
