I think its more likely for him to be like Mark Price than Stockton. We know Stockton was an absolute dog and gritty and borderline dirty I can't see Reed ever going to those places, but he could be a good long ranger shooter coming off PNR's like Price was in his prime.
If he wont become Steph level why keep mentioning Steph? I am not trashing Reed's developmental process I just find it ridiculous you look at 32% 3 pt and keep mentioning Steph even as you say he wont be Steph? It makes as much sense as comparing Reed to Shaq and then say Reed won't be Shaq. Personally I dont think Reed will reach Steph level at all. I think his 3 pt will be at 40% or lower this year. I also think on defense he will be really good, much better than Steph. Steph does a lot that Reed cant do, including gravity and POA offense. Reed cant break down the defense like Steph. Reed is more like Klay than Steph. In short I dont think Reed will be like Steph so I dont mention Steph when talking about him.
Steph is old lol...when he won his 2 MVPs(25-28) his Defense was above average to at least decent. He is just old and can only play at one end but the whole he is terrible is also overrated. He is actually consistent at rotating to the man or the space he should be guarding. Comparing some guy who is 20 who is about to be at the height of his powers and a 37 year old is blasphemous.
Why mention Curry? Because he and Curry has almost exactly the same measurements. Because in a way Sheppard’s pre-draft shooting data is even more atrocious than the best shooter in the history of the game. Because like Sheppard, before Curry broke out, he had miserable summer league performances. Because like Curry, Sheppard has a strong feel of the game and high basketball intelligence. Because both of them come from a basketball family. There are many many factors driving the ultimate developmental curve of a player. Think mentality, think opportunities. But you cannot brush away these similarities when following Sheppard’s developmental journey. Mentioning Curry doesn’t mean he will become one. Mentioning Jokic doesn’t mean Sengun will become one. I don’t believe he will become a Curry, a CP either. But they have a lot common traits and similarities. And also get used to the comparisons between Sheppard and FVV - Sheppard has arguably better hands CP - the mid range game Lowry - how RS would be used in zones going forward I’m sorry but basketball discourse should be more nuanced than simple black and white.
Summer League doesn't mean anything unless the guy looks unplayable. Which Reed hasnt. Id say that the people that are up in arms about Reed's SL performance are a concentric circle with the people thinking WingStop needed more time and didn't have enough spacing. It didn't mean much but Reed does need to start taking this stuff a little more seriously and it showed him what he needs to work on from a ball handling perspective.
Well said. At a minimum, Reed should be getting heavy, heavy run against the bottom-feeding teams so that FVV isn't playing 30+ minutes against some trash team that the Rockets should be deep enough to destroy even if Sheppard makes some mistakes. Reed got around 30% of the minutes JG got his rookie season. I wonder if Stone has had a tough convo with Ime this summer about his dogged adherence to playing "reliable" vets with low performance ceilings over players who need reps so that they can become reliable vets.
Reed has the tools, and he's certainly got time on his side. We're going to find out if he has the hunger to excel.
I expect nothing less from CF. Reed will likely become very divisive. You can already see the divide between those who like him and those who don't. The only guy that is not divisive even slightly is Amen. Everybody likes Amen.
