Me either. Ht I’m perpetually irritated by it. This team is in first place probably in the whole league if Yordan was himself.
K rate totally fine. BB rate totally fine. Exit velo totally fine. All plate discipline numbers totally fine. His barrel rate and hard hit rate are down. His BABIP is low. His flyball and popup rates are high. I would be really surprised if it was anything physical or permanent. I think it’s mostly luck and maybe a slight glitch that is keeping him from crushing balls like he normally does. I still have very high confidence he’ll get right.
I'm just waiting for the big bopper to wake up from hibernation. I miss seeing him knock them out of the park.
That would mean the Astros would have won 4 more games so far. Since he's essentially a replacement level player right now, that would mean 4 WAR for Alvarez in 26 games. That would make him a 24-ish WAR player for a full season.
It would take longer than that for me to really worry, and I would just assume there’s an injury that’s causing it. He’s not even 28.
I mean/ he has tried to hit 2 different times and every time he does it’s a setback and start over. Who knows. I think it’s gonna end with surgery on hamate but that’s a guess not sourced information.
3 months ago I would have said common sense dictates it simply can't he the hamster. It's the first thing ANYBODY looks at - any high schooler taking an Anatomy class or a team doctor or every fan who pays semi-attention. And how many times have they stated it isn't and that its in a completely different area of the hand. And I still have hope that is true but I no longer have faith. The hopeful side of me just thinks he needs to rebuild the strength in his hand and his confidence that its healed and over. But who the hell knows anymore.
