Most 2nd year players in his position summer league games just to do so.

Basically, Reed was going to be playing basketball somewhere, maybe a rec league or something or working out and working on his game in some manner any ways and may as well do so with the organization since he has the chance to.

Summerleague isn't really for guys like Reed. It's for lower fringe prospects to try and showcase their toolset so they can make the end of a team or a gleague team or impress international scouts.

Summerleague is literally meaningless for most first round picks in that it's really just an offseason workout for them.

That's what I said but I don't think he can run Offenses against a real good team or real good 2nd Units.

It doesn't matter if he showed flashes, bc contenders don't need flashes, they need solid consistency.

Fastest track, come off screens and shoot, C and shoots...., Corner 3s.

I would have said the same thing if he declared not to play Summer League therefore it's not just 1 single SL game to me. Same weaknesses even if he gets hot and scores 40 like Jalen Green.

Detroit just showed to the 28 other teams how easy it is to target the 3rd Pick. A lot of other team's starters and 6th men are in LV watching Summer League, you think they would just forget about Sheppard?

    #neverlookback

The team also knows that there is not much more to see / prove to play with this bunch of scrubs. His job was never to be the No 1 option among non spacing, no nothing scrubs, unlike some of the folks here insist.

Not been following SL. Why are the Rockets doing this?

Put that to bed after tucking him in.

Detroit embarrassed him and it is on tape.

Should have never played the 2nd game to begin with.

Because there's no point. Would've been a little better if there was some other NBA talent around him but sending him out there to score 20 pts while getting clattered into by two way guys trying to prove something isnt in the Rockets best interests.

weak. quitting after getting destroyed by jenkins. there’s plenty to work on rest of the SL ie handling full court pressure, closing out on shooters, staying in front of your man without reaching, etc etc

He was only playing two games no matter what.

The Rockets have done this in the past with Jabari and others.

The Mavs are doing it with their prized rookie.

They don't want an injury risk for glorified scrimmage ball.

I’d rather see him get back in the lab with someone working on ball handling, etc. than playing a bunch of G League scrubs trying to impress at all costs.

    Still a Brian dead point

even with a small sample size and one of those games being basically a disaster his summer league stats look better than castles rookie of the year stats

here’s Reeds combined stat line for two games:

    23.0 PTS, 6.0 REB, 2.5 AST, 4.0 STL, 1.5 BLK, 30.5 MIN
    .356 FG%
    (16-45), .368 3P%

for reference here is castles ROY statline:

    14.7 PTS, 3.7 REB, 4.1 AST, 0.9 STL, 0.3 BLK, 26.7 MIN
    .428 FG%
    , .285 3P%

They embarrassed him last year too. Jenkins came out with something to prove against him. And the way he got embarrassed was pretty similar to the way he struggled in the league. I'm still a Reed optimist, but it just doesn't bode well. We'll see.

This is probably the best thing for Reed. His last SL game left him embarrassed, so now he will do whatever it takes to be ready for the season.

    This is true.

Jenkins will get to watch his son on television playing in the NBA.

Maybe the Rockets should look at adding him to the team to go at Sheppard in practice.

Even at 60, I wish the Rockets would give Dennis Rodman some truck stop SPICE and an 8 ball and have him defend against the Rockets at practice.

It’s not like they don’t already have one of the best man defenders in the last 10 years or so already on the roster.

I knew the Rockets were going to wimp out and not play him instead of letting him work through his issues.

I remember there were a lot of people comparing Sheppard to cp3 and curry lol.

He’s the 15th pick in this year’s draft, not 3rd. They should trade him.
