It has been two games and one of the games he was very good. I'm just not that concerned about summer league games - I have seen him explode before, and I have seen him be a negative on the court as well. I will wait for the regular season before I get high or low on Sheppard. At the end of the day, a lot of his success is going to be tied to his ability to consistently hit perimeter shots.
Okay, let's look at it this way. He is currently getting all the minutes he needs and he is still not dominant in SUMMER LEAGUE. Now people are saying "uh yuck yuck, defenses are keying in on him". Duhhhh!!! That's what defenses are supposed to do. Some player are never able to get past that(Jalen "Pretty Fingers" Green).
Nonsense, Steph Curry struggled in Summer League and we saw that he never amounted to anything. It's perfectly normal to knee jerk this hard to one poor Summer League game.
Friendly reminder, Steph Curry only played in one SL and never looked back. Stop with all the excuses.
Not sweating summer league at all, very different dynamics, roles and team organization situations. We've seen SL stars get cut or traded and terrible SL performers go on to be successful. As long as it's used as a tool to improve, what matters are the realistic skills that can transfer over to the RS role and most importantly playoffs.
Yeah....after 3 years in college, so his one Summer League season would have been similar to if Reed Sheppard played Summer League next year...and in that one Summer League appearance, he was still worse than Reed Sheppard has been thus far. I get that you are doing a bit, but damn man, it's wild.
To be honest, KD, Amen, & Alpi are going to be the primary shot creators on this squad. Shot creator is not his primary role on this squad. As long as the Reed can make open shots and be a pest defensively he'll be fine.

This thread in the past few days is a glowing example of recency bias and confirmation bias. Recency: If he played great last game, he'll be great. If he played bad last game, he won't make it. The ups and downs are worse than the stock market. Confirmation: After a good game, those who didn't like him say, "It's just SL against nobodies. Wait till he plays against real NBA talents." Those who like him point out all the positive things that were predicted of him. After a bad game, those who didn't like him say, "I told you so. Every issue we pointed out is true." Those who like him give excuse after excuse.
We weren't talking about how he looked as a short off ball SG......he isn't much of a NBA caliber PG right now that is what Stone wanted him to be. I don't mind him as the backup SG as long as he hits his shots as you put it...though. Someone like Malik Beasley can be had if he is cleared of his allegations.
Greenies whining about Sheppard fail to realize that the 2024 draft was weak. The 2021 draft was stacked.
So? He was trash a$$. That GS team he joined was in no shape of form as competitive as the Rockets last year. They were, actually the laughing stock of the league. If you think the context is as comparable I have nothing else to say.
I think he will be fine as a backup point guard. He doesn't have any issues creating shots for himself or others. His issue is that he doesn't get a lot of easy points, and he has hit shots if he wants to see the floor long term.
I think they’re saying “but you could’ve drafted Castle” which is true, but the Rockets already had 3-4 players that do what Castle does.
If the draft were redone tomorrow, the Rockets would likely take Castle. The reason being that the size and defensive upside are both real and there is a chance he become better as a shooter. Having said that, Castle really wasn't very good last year. He was poor defensively and not very good offensively either. However - Sheppard was expected to be better offensively than he showed last year. The Rockets still are very high on Sheppard though, and there were a lot of teams interested in him this off season. Let's wait and see how he develops, he should be able to be a solid starter at least with a little more consistency from game to game. He works hard and is disciplined with a high basketball IQ, those types of guys usually keep getting better.
