All State QB's usually have very good arms and LF at the Dyke is a place he should fit in well. Big power hitter and he appears to have the clutch gene. I thought he was the best hitter on the LSU team and that includes Curiel. If he can stay healthy Frey is going to be a steal IMHO.
I wonder if the Astros are gonna have issues having their guys get swiped unexpectedly because they’re picking immediately behind 2 like-minded teams in Baltimore and Milwaukee.
Round 5, Pick 156: Nick Potter, RHP, Wichita State First pitcher of the class. JUCO transfer in his only D1 season with an upper-90s fastball that has touched 100. 23 relief appearances, 17 BB, 33 K, .200 average against.
Typical Astros projection pick. Looks like he barely pitched at a Juco for 2 years, then was a reliever at a mid major program. Now he's the first pitcher they take. 6'4" 195 with huge arm strength, extension that will make the fastball play up, and still room to add some muscle he's a high risk high reward pick.

Yep. I also get excited when I see them pick obscure guys from in the state of Texas since it means Brown and other big wigs might’ve gotten a really good look at the player out of convenience that other orgs might not have gotten.
I like that Dana and the scouts are swinging for the fences with these picks. If they can sign them then they will probably hit on 4-5 of these type guys. That will make for a good draft.
Round 6, Pick 186: Gabel Pentecost, RHP, Taylor University Taylor University is an NAIA school in Indiana. The basketball program is best known for its "Silent Night" game, where the crowd stays silent until the tenth point is scored, after which they erupt. They will also sing "Silent Night" towards the end of the game. Pentecost struck out 116 in 80 innings this season. Went 12-2 with a 3.04 ERA in 16 starts. Best pitch is probably his curveball. So we're in the large pitcher from a small school portion of the draft. I saw somewhere he was homeschooled in high school before before going to the NAIA school. Couldn't find too much about him, but it looks like he pretty consistently threw strikes in college and there may be so dry paint with the lack of high level pitching development in his background.
From Anthony Boyer/Eephus Tosser. The board doesn't support embedding Bluesky posts. Monistere - Led Sun Belt in homers and RBI. Plays like he's on fast-forward... all gas, no brakes. Potter - "bet on the arm" pick. Big upside if he can find some command. Pentecost - Likes his sweeper, real starter's arsenal. Clean delivery, throws strikes with four pitches.
Round 7, Pick 216: Jase Mitchell, C, Cape Henlopen High School, Lewes, Delaware Top player in Delaware. Kentucky commit, currently a power-over-hit lefty profile. Good chance to stick at catcher, but of course, a very long development track awaits high school catchers.
Wow. He seems like he would require a good amount of overslot to sign. Assuming they have their ducks in a row this is a fantastic pick. He will have a long timeline due to needing a lot of both defensive and offensive development but he has big ceiling on both sides.
ESPN mentioned he was connected to the Astros in one of their mocks. Seems like a nice little upside play here. Neyens, Mitchell and Alvarez is an interesting core of LH power bats that could start next season at Fayetteville. Nice job by Dana and co to save enough money to grab a likely overslot guy here in the 7th.
The bottom half of the system should be extremely strong at the start of next season. Infield in upper levels will be the only thing keeping this system from being really really deep and good.
