There have been players with stomach issues like ulcers/pancreatitis (SP?) that have had exploratory surgeries. I know that a hand is different. I still think his issues are related to hammate bone issues and they're trying to get him through this season.
All Star break coming just at the right time...this team was in desperate need of rest and some health. The last two series absolutely sucked, but all things considered, being in position to have a bye if the playoffs started today with all the crap we've dealt with all season is cause to be extremely happy about things. Get healthy and get right.
They do exploratory surgery if you have something wrong with your gut and they cant figure out what's wrong. I guess I should've been more specific.
Those days are long gone (or if you hear people suggesting that, probably need a second opinion). Imaging for ALL surgical conditions usually aids the diagnoses, unless its an emergency or the pt in unstable (i.e. - not enough time to get such imaging). The Yordan injury is obviously not a standard thing. Its inflammation due to repetitive use combined with a stress fracture. If there is no obvious structure/ligament/tendon that can be surgically repaired (or a bone that needs plating/stabalizing), nobody is going to reccomend going in there. You can’t get a hand replacement (like a hip or a knee). Plates/fixation devices imply some bony structure instability. Between tendons, ligaments, nerves, muscles and bones all in close proximity (and all vital for something such as swinging a stick)… hands are among the most complicated entity to deal with in sports medicine.
Agreed, about Yordan. Also the gut thing, ask former Texans OL Brandon Brooks about exploratory gut surgery. Not only did exploratory gut surgery lead to him becoming an all pro RG, but it probably saved or extended his life.
I thought he was told he had “ulcers”. Scopes didnt show it. Turns out it was anxiety related and now he champions mental health wellness when there are unexplained symptoms. almost the opposite of “exploratory surgery”…. But correct me if I’m wrong. (Or what did he end up having?) either way, endoscopy still done regularly and much less invasive than actual surgery.
