I prefer Neyens over LaViolette but both guys are extremely high ceiling players. Cunningham was the last guy I felt like would be a steal at 21 so I hope whoever they pick goes under slot.

‘It’ll come down to signability as Neyens has leverage as a high schooler.

The first member of the Houston Astros' draft class of 2025 is...

Round 1, Pick 21: Xavier Neyens, SS, Mount Vernon High School (Mount Vernon, WA)

Announced as a shortstop, but most of the publications have him listed as a 3B. Oregon State commit.

Here's Eephus Tosser's take. Eephus Tosser, aka Anthony Boyer, used to be the Crawfish Boxes' prospect writer.

Don’t know a thing about these guys, was this a solid pick in y’all’s eyes?

I'm thinking they go with LaViolette or Aloy. (College bats) I prefer LaViolette but would be very happy with Aloy. BTW, I've got very limited knowledge, I mainly watch the playoffs and college WS.

Pleasantly surprised they went with Neyens, thought they would have gone college bats. There’s a lot of potential with Neyens.

It’s too bad we won’t pick again until the 3rd round. There’s quite a bit of depth that could be had in the 2nd round.

    If he signs.

    There's the rub.

Very bad year to not have a 2nd round pick.

Neyens was probably the highest ceiling prospect left on the board and along with Kevin Alvarez he will be the highest ceiling prospect in Houston’s system.

They should already have the parameters of a deal worked out.

I'm sure Neyens will get slot or just over slot (slot for pick #21 is $4.1 million). There’s Astros will probably go college seniors with the rest of rounds for easier signability.

It’s also too bad we can’t trade for picks either.

You are probably right but it’s not like Neyens was projected to go any higher or that he will get the kind of money at Oregon State that he will get by signing, so his leverage is limited. I’d still take the over on whether he signs for over or under slot but it won’t shock me if he signs right at slot or a little below.

Very happy with the Neyens pick. He's the kind of high upside bat that could be a Roman Anthony or Jac Caglianone type prospect in 2-3 years.

"Haugtily correcting you" had nothing to do with my post.

I made this statement myself multiple times.

I was simply wanting the information outbl there and accurate.

My sincerest apologies if you took any offence at the correction.

It wasn't personal. It was simply factual. I would have made the same post regardless who I was responding to, even myself.

‘I think some folks did. Personally I just want to see some blue-chip talent back in the system. I liked Summerhill, Aloy, LaViolette and Neyens, not in any particular order. The upside with college bats is that they can move faster through the system. Neyens probably won’t sniff the majors until 2028 (not a knock, but it takes high schooler hitters a while develop and to hit breaking stuff).

I do not like the pick at all. You do not waste a first round pick on a corner infielder. Particularly one that thinks he should be getting paid as a short stop. Hopefully he will be traded for something useful.
