His comments on the trade as well has having some time to un-rose-tint my glasses kind of illustrate a little problem for me. I think he is a great teammate and is very likeable--but for him to say that the trade was for the betterment of the team is not how I really want my leading scorer to think. It should be "**** you I'm better than KD". And while I did appreciate the self-awareness while he was here, he seems to lack that delusional sort of self-confidence that you sort of need as a smaller superscorer in the league. Either way, seems like there's not too many hard feelings and he still loves the city and the guys, so that's cool. Hope he plays his ass off in Phoenix as the number 2 perimeter option next to Booker. And I hope he plays badly against us every. Single. Time.
Dude was given the reins by Silas, total control......so back then if he had superstar potential, it would have showed. He is really gifted scorer and not everyone is that and he seemed to be hard working on Defense enough. I just figured he hasn't added a lot to his game that has worked for him in 4 years........unfortunately. The mental side of things, that he is this laid back Cali guy, but Harden was that as well. Good luck in Arizona again and he needs it.
Monte Ellis said ever since Stephen Curry hard work ethic and adding Muscle, Stephen Curry confidence grew. Great advice for all Athletes.
I think that whole playoff series and everything else around it just illustrated that whilst he's got the physical tools, he just doesn't have the ego/heart/aggression required to be what he needed to be. Does he find it in future? Probably not, and I'm glad we're no longer the ones having to see if he does.
in addition to that, he just doesn’t have the skills can’t hit threes off the dribble at a good rate, no midrange game, no floater, no go-to move, can’t finish over physicality but being that nervous before a game 1 at home is wild…I couldn’t have any confidence in somebody if they were shaking before they were about to do something Was he hyperventilating and feeling lightheaded before game 7?
I hope he sucks as long as he is playing for Phoenix. Nothing against the guy but we own their picks. Hopefully they trade him and Dillon to the East and then I can genuinely pull for them to play well. I do believe Phoenix will be better this year.
I understand having the butterflies and nerves but when it's game time it's time to go out there and get it done. Paid millions for a game you've been playing all your life. That hoop is still 10 feet and the basketball still bounces. You gotta have that set apart mentality to play in big games.
I think he wasn't the guy that was expected to be a star, he was drafted by a team lacking a star as a player they felt had the highest ceiling. He clearly didnt reach that ceiling while with us but he tried and changed as the culture changed. I think if ime was our coach when he was drafted, he would be a much better player today. Some of his delay in growth is on him and some of it is on the Rockets. He still has a high ceiling and it will be interesting to see if he gets close to it
Even if he was nervous, admitting it really wouldn’t be helpful until AFTER his career or after a good playoff series, in my opinion. Again, I’ve always appreciated his honesty and self-awareness but as others have said he just seems like too nice a kid right now. That would be great if there was a real killer he could team up with and play off of, but I don’t know if he’ll ever be a numero uno on a competitive team. Not something for us to worry about any more, though!
You can hear that this trade has been good for Jalen. I think I understood every single word he has said in this interview. Keep it up my man.
