Hey, Short helped win a couple of games and was a solid SS. He's already accomplished more than I thought he would.
Bottom line is Meyers was counted on for SOME offense, even if it didn't involve power. When he went down, they needed a guy with some run production potential rather than just another defense-first bandaid.
They are hoping Matthews at 2B and Dubon in CF Is at least as good offensively as Dubon at 2B and Meyers in CF.
They have a cushion. Let him get a taste. Clearly they know how to help young guys adjust/ease into this league. He won’t be the earliest callup of this era by any means. Tucker struggled, Bregman struggled… Correa excelled, Springer was fine (and also 26, lol)…. Then nothing happened for almost 10 years in terms of stellar young prospects… and then Cam smith has done ok.
He's not gonna hit .300 or even 280, or get a 350 OB%, But he is almost guaranteed to hit more than 1 HR every 100 PAs and 1 extra base hit every 16. And in AAA revision stealing ability base every 4 times he is on 1b (singles+ BB+ HBP) Jake is every 7. He has to slug and steal, but the overall results may be comparable.
there's no analysis like "congratulations to so-and-so on his first call-up, here's why he might fail" analysis
I had a spill and landed on a rock. "I'm fine" My side hurt for 2 or 3 days...then one morning I sneezed and felt/heard the rib fully crack. Some of the worst pain ever for a couple of weeks.
I took a helmet to the ribs and it took me almost a month. Anytime I coughed it felt like someone was taking a bat to my midcage. I can't imagine he's going to be able to swing a bat that soon
