I'd rather fire Ime than trade for Smart.

    Likely rotation players to play:

    KD
    Sengun
    Amen
    Jabari
    FVV
    Tari
    Adams
    Reed

Other rotation players getting spot minutes:

    Tate
    Green
    Holiday
    Capela

    Marcus makes $21.5M.

Rockets are not going to trade KD, Sengun, Amen, Jabari (can't be traded), FVV, Adams for Marcus. Reed, it seems like they really believe in him, so I don't expect them to send him out this season either, unless he looks like a total bust and they decide to move his salary at the trading deadline for a serviceable player, but lets pretend Reed is off the table.

Maybe they trade Capela and Tari, but that's only $12M or so, you still need another $9M to match. At that point you are trading your smaller salaries, Tate, Green, and Holiday, all at the $2.2M and you are still short. Since you are hard capped at the 1st apron, I believe you have to make the numbers match, so we still don't have enough players to trade. Add to the fact that you will be sending several players out, you are then not going to be able to sign additional guys due to not being able to exceed the 1st apron.

So personally, I don't see a path. I'm not cap expert so I could be wrong on all of this, but I see Marcus Smart as impossible unless he gets a buyout later in the season and he signs for the minimum.

That makes sense. I do think they are going to move Tari at some point though

Smart is making 20M. To trade for him without giving up any rotation players: Capela + Jeff or Tate. I don't know why MEM would want any of those players.

I don't like Smart. I hope Ime won't pressure Stone to get him.

    Cod,
Tell Ime and Stone to keep their hands off my Tari!

no more trading of core prospects for aging vets. We good. Between Fred and KD we are already carrying some real injury risk. Let’s roll with the team we got. Can always make adjustments at the deadline.

Is there such a thing as social capital in the NBA? i.e., in this case: If the Rockets did Whitmore a solid here, at the expense of getting a better return from another team, do they get any benefit in future FA, contract, or trade transactions? What is the evidence that players and/or agents treat a franchise better when the franchise has recently done something generous for a different player?

I'm not sure players and agents treat a team differently based on the generosity of actions towards another player. It is impossible to know what truly goes on in players' and agents' heads, but if I were in their position, I would avoid places that play hardball.

Getting rid of Tari for smart is the opposite of smart. Only plus side is I don’t think Marcus’s mom is on twitter

Dont have any hard data, but there were rumblings that when Morey was here and he treated players like assets guys around the league noticed that. Stone came in wanting to turn that reputation around. They have been able to negotiate some on the surface 'favorable contracts'...including dfs who left a team where he had issues with how the GM handled things. When Cuban controlled the Mavs I also recall hearing a few players talk about liking their org because of how they treated players.

But either way, I think id rather have a team with the reputation of being good to players than the opposite.

If Tari gets traded for each of these two I will cease to be a fan, period.

Rumblings? That was more than a best kept secret, hard facts.

Even if healthy, a team with Natheenan Williams playing significant minutes as a backup shooting guard ain’t going to the Finals. Say what you want but he’s the only shooting guard on the whole roster. You all are in fantasy land if you think Durant or Eason are playing shooing guard. Reed is a point guard with no defense. Holiday is a career scrub. Rockets going nowhere with no qualified shooters to play shooting guard.

Codman you are wrong. They don’t even play the same position. Eason = SF, Cam = SG. The ONLY comparison you can make is that Natheenan Williams and/or Aaron Holiday are better than Cam as they are the SG backups. The answer by the way is easy….neither can replace the production of Cam. Due to the free giveaway of Cam, we gave away our guard depth and now have a major weakness at SG which will cost us greatly.

Dude, you are thinking way too inside the box! Ime was playing Tari up top in the zone a lot down the stretch and in the playoffs. I expect them to play VERY big this season. Don't get too caught up in PG-SG-SF-PF-C lineups.

Think we'll see a lot of 3 wing lineups this year. Traditional positions aren't as important except maybe lead guard and a post player.
