[NBC News] Large Swaths of Children being hospitalized in Texas due to non vaccinations of Measles

It's hard to tell the temperament over text, people get real touchy over this subject. I'm chilling just a little confused at some of the remarks, probably miscommunication.

 

I apologize for extending this tangent but what I'm saying about assessments is that there isn't a problem with homeschooled students functioning so the state has enough issues with public education.

This has definitely been an education and you seem definitely educated on this subject.

Education governance is a major conservative issue in terms of what is taught. Public education is definitely a service and some extreme conservatives may feel is an over reach even using tax revenue to provide it.

None of this justifies lack of accountability but if it were a problem then problem states would step it up. Again conservative states are putting trust in families and it's not an issue

It's hard to gauge whether there are problems or not without any monitoring. From my understanding homeschoolers generally test as well if not better than their counterparts when tested, I'm just a bit concerned about the potential selection bias in those who are tested and are out seeking tests, not fully representing the entirety of home schoolers.

I support the option to home school, like I alluded to earlier, I currently home school my eldest (7 years old) due to some unique circumstances. He does well, it's gone well, I don't plan on doing it much longer, I don't feel like it would be fair to him socially as he matures, I could probably keep up as a teacher for the majority of elementary, but honestly I don't feel qualified for middle school and certainly not an high school education. I'm sure there are programs that negate the incompetence of the instructor but It's not something I'm personally going to be getting into.

 

We study all kinds of things that lack formal government assessment data.

There are actually studies on this. A bunch of kids were homeschooled during COVID, and there were studies on how they performed. That said, COVID was a very unique situation, so I wouldn’t equate COVID-era homeschooling with typical homeschooling. Still, similar studies could be conducted pretty much anytime.

 

Only amongst home schoolers/parents that are willing to disclose or create that data, only people who are having their kids go out and do testing/college admissions. What about the ones who simply don't? It's tricky.

 

Yes, it's definitely tricky, but not impossible. For example, those who don't answer or who don't say whether they attend public or private school can be grouped as "unknown," and you can make some inferences - like whether they might be homeschooled (or not schooled at all).

could have gone to Harvard instead of SFA.

 

This might not be a big deal if breakthroughs in biotech and pharma continue their trajectory of curing things like cancers. But if the discoveries come at a cost premium focused on have vs have-nots, then track and update your immunization docs on the regular.

Falling childhood vaccine coverage and a large, smoldering outbreak that was kindled in an undervaccinated pocket of West Texas have driven the United States to a troubling new milestone: There have been more measles cases in the US this year than any other since the disease was declared eliminated a quarter-century ago.

There have been at least 1,277 confirmed cases of measles reported in the US in 2025, according to data from the Johns Hopkins University Center for Outbreak Response Innovation. Just halfway through the year, the case tally has already surpassed the last record from 2019, when there were a total of 1,274 cases.

 

What these fools don't understand is that by allowing measles to go into the wild and spread, they are inviting it to mutate into another strain. Just pure idiocy all because of Russian propaganda that vaccines aren't safe.
