If he hit LH I think there would already be a conversation based on injury to Pena.

But, truth be told, he needs to hit LH, or at very least hit vs RHP to help this team.

He has .829 OPS vs RHP ( keep in mind this is the PCL so that like .725 in a regular league) and 1.023 vs LHP.

He also has .598 OPS at home and 1.092 at the wild PCL road stadiums.

I don't see him as the answer especially not this year.

Because of all the RH hitting starters set for the next 2+ years, I would love the Astros to trade him for a controllable LH 2B/LF.

Juan Rojas looks like a rather large individual. If Yensi is 6'2", I think he might be taller than 6'1".

That’s 29% at AAA to low 20’s at MLB level, which is probably the greatest level up talent jump in professional sports.
I’m rooting for him, and I’d have called him up and played him every day for 2 weeks before the ASB instead of short were I the astros, but short won us a game so it’s hard to be too mad about that.

I meant low 20s in AAA then probably 30% in the bigs when he’s starting off. Even if he strikes out a lot he’s got 20 HR pop and 50 stolen base potential, reports on his defense haven’t been super positive but I think he’s athletic enough to be a really good second baseman. If he hits .230 he’s probably still a 4 WAR player

You’re right on Pena, I think I confused it with the fact that many outlets had him at a 40 hit tool, just checked fangraphs. If I had to guess most publications probably think higher of Matthews hit tools than Pena’s as a prospect.

Like I said- I’d prefer him for 2 weeks over short. Or Trammell.

Pena wasn't much of a hitter but he made contact and didn't strike out much. Matthews has a higher ceiling but a lower floor. Matthews can hit 107 mph homeruns 430+ feet. There was no way Pena wasn't going to be a major leaguer. He would have made on defense alone. Matthews will get his chance but if he doesn't learn how to make contact more often, it will be a short stay.

Agreed, but if he does learn how to make contact more often he’s a star. I like the boom or bust swing Brown took with his draft pick, only time will tell.

    Luis Rodriguez with a nice start in Fayetteville: 5 IP, 4 H, ER, 2 BB, 4 K

ERA down to 2.36 in 16 appearances (10 starts, 68.2 IP total). However, his walk rate has spiked and his strikeout rate has dipped substantially this season.

Baseball America recently did a podcast on sleeper prospects which mentioned both Bryce Mayer and Kevin Alvarez. Geoff Pontes said Kevin Alvarez could be in top 100 very shortly, and he's the "first big Astros prospect in a while."

    Timestamps
2:00 Bryce Mayer (talks about Alvarez here as well; the top 100 and big prospect comment are here)
    29:20 Kevin Alvarez

The best game I played in my HS career was wearing Nike basketball hightops on Rice Stadium turf. The grass-type cleats were all for **** so I and others changed after warmups.

That’s because they stupidly didn’t have Hunter brown as a top prospect. Which I was yelling at them about at the time.
