I dont think Chet deserved anything close to the max deal he got. It was a move that reeks of "we're afraid of losing you". If the Rockets get Amen on a smaller deal than what Chet and Paolo got, I'm not sure how OKC or the Magic will be competitive with the Rockets moving forward if Im being honest. I dont see Jalen Williams as much more than a Top 30 guy (Jamal Murray). Chet I could see ascending but hes not there yet and hasnt shown it too much either. I dont think this deal was necessary. At all. Unless Chet's camp told them specifically they wanted this and if so then they *really* aren't going to be title favorites in a few years anyway.
They would be committing majority of the cap to 3 guys SGA, Chet and JDub. SGA is gonna make 75M Chet is 50M Jdub another 50M In 2025 the salary cap is 154M lol. Of course these extensions kick in 2 yrs but even the cap by then would be like 180M or something. They are also paying overpaid salary to several players Ihart 30M, Lou Dort 18M, Caruso 18M. Cason Wallace and JDub up next for extensions. I dont think their window is wide open the salary cap is 154M even if it increases by 10% every year they dont have the depth we have and gonna be extremely capped out. Stone has done miracles getting the young core to sign for less than max. Chet may be better than Jabari, but is 2x better? I dont think so, esp with Chet major injury 2 of the 3 yrs he has played. Its kind ridiculous tbh, Chet missed more games than played but he got the max? Ok, I guess JDub gonna get that super max for 56M or something.
He is paying 2 million of his 41 in State income taxes.....that should be alright, it is not a high tax state.
What an ignorant thing to ask. Shows a complete misunderstanding of when FVV was brought here, why he was brought here, what our roster and salary structure was, where is value is, what the length of the contract was, what it is now and what it does and doesnt limit us from now and in the future. Also completely ignores the outcome and impact of our team. Just so much ignorance in one question. We did not regret giving FVV that contract. Will OKC regret giving this one to Chet?
OKC will regret deal if Chet is continuously hurt in the playoffs. Other then that, this deal makes a lot of sense for OKC. The Thunder will be a pain for the next 3 years. Probably longer.
Of course, my bad. They won everything, I guess, keeping the 3 together was the most paramount goal in this. They have not even regretted trading Harden away, those guys are more professional than us with mistakes .....they own them. And turning it into : We are so glad Harden got a chance somewhere else to become a Superstar. .....talk.
Personally I think they are risking a full decade of being a contender when there wasnt a rush with this contract. Next two or three years they'll be fine but it'll catch up. Maybe they're relying on their picks filling in important roles (whether the player the draft or via trades)
Good point. The 7% increase this year caught everyone off guard. If it's less than 10% again next year and that becomes a trend, Presti will have a tougher time in future years.
