"Reed better prove it in his second year or he should be gone by the trade deadline. Jalen on the other hand needed more time."

Jalen is only 19 though, he needs at least 8 years before he can be judged at all.

I'm sure the Rockets will make Reed the focal point of the offense in the first two Summer League games just get him some run. I'm expecting 30ppg, 5ast and 3 steals per game...assist numbers will be low since its Summer league.

I would hope so, but I think it's worth noting that every top pick who has played in the Utah league thus far has looked terrible. So while I would hope it would be G League part 2 for him, we shouldn't set expectations too crazy high

Reed has shined every time he was given a real chance. He will continue to do so this coming year. Some of you haters are not going to be happy.

Reed has more talent in his pinky than Matt Maloney ever had. No comparison bro.

Summer league can tell you if a player isn't ready for the NBA. If Reed doesn't look like Steph Curry in his summer league games, that could portend trouble.

That's bad news for a lot of this year's top picks....

Reed will be fine. Hes gonna go from trying to break down Cason Wallace and Caruso to breaking down Uber Eats delivery drivers.

what’s wrong with that. The Bullet Train (Cam) left the station and now we have the slow local train left :)

That's my expectation too, but we have to remember that Reed Sheppard, like other top picks, will be surrounded in Summer League with gangly uncoordinated dogshit for teammates that they have no chemistry with... so the results from any of them aren't necessarily indicative of what we'd see even in the real preseason good or bad.

There's a huge difference between 1st and 2nd year players. 2nd year capable NBA rotation players should look like superstars in summer league setting.

I don't really think its unreal or unusual. The hype for Reed is definitely less than Amen, Jalen, and Sengun had. Seems pretty normal for a lotto pick that hasn't really had the opportunity to show his stuff yet, but has flashed major potential in very very small doses.

Sure, in theory, that's why that is the expectation... but it's not the end of the world if it doesn't happen given that we've already seen him do it against the league's best.

The things I'm looking for is for him to show better cardio and more strength than he had last year. If he also drops 30, great.

He had that in G League. Didn't matter. He had that vs the actual Thunder and it didn't matter.

He looked fine last year. I don't get hte point of him coming back a second year. At best "he look ok" at worst people say he's a bust.

This whole 'second year players coming back" thing has not worked out well for the Rockets in particular. Off the top of my head:

    Josh Christopher - didn't work
    Garuba - didn't work
Jabari Smith - didn't really work, he modestly improved from year 1 to 2 but i doubt summer league had much to do with it
    Whitmore - didn't work.

Other than just staying in the shape in the offseason I don't get the benefit for 2nd year guys, I guess the harm is minimal too. Whatever.

True. My point was that what I'm looking for isn't a box score. I've seen him put up numbers for real.

What i want to see is increased strength and better cardio from last year's Summer League.
