No he does not have the same specific “skillset” as CP3. Skill means the ability to do something well. Skillset is simply defined as a collection of skills and abilities that can be applied to a profession. You specifically compared him to CP3. Paul had a very reliable mid range FT line 15-18 ft pullup he used since Wake Forest. Paul used this his rookie year with over 200 FGA. Paul was very explosive in his early days and got to the paint 487 times rookie year and within 5 ft over 300 times. These are elite numbers. More than Fox and Haliburton in their rookie years. Paul had incredible handling ability sustaining long dribbles in and out of the half court looking for cutters or shooters. Reed is not an explosive player off the dribble one on one as evidenced at Kentucky. He uses angles, screens, and gets players out of position or wide open lanes to drive. He isn’t Braun from Denver or even Cason Wallace from OKC. 2 much more explosive guys. Reed doesn’t have a reliable go to FT line shot CP3 had. Lastly he doesn’t have the same skill to navigate the court freely and scan for open players making the right reads and passes. Does Reed have the “skillset” of a pg? Yes. He can zip passes to the corner or cross court. He can play pick and roll ball handler. He can shoot when open and drive. Does he have the same “skillset” as CP3? No he does not. These are 2 different things. He does not have the ability to do what CP3 does or did. Reed has always been a combo guard since high school. He played 2 guard in high school and at Kentucky but could handle and pass like a point. He plays a lot of offball coming off screens to catch and shoot. He came off the bench and played with Dillingham who ran point often finding an open Sheppard for 3s. Lastly your statement that most 1s play off ball Is incorrect. Most 1s are ball dominant in this league as the pg role has evolved into elite scoring combo guards. Haliburton does not play off ball. Brunson does not play off ball. Fox does not play off ball. Doncic does not play off ball. SGA does not play off ball. These guys carry the load on their team driving or shooting and scoring or making plays for others. The only off ball point in this league i have seen is Curry who plays a lot of off ball like a 2 guard coming off screens for a catch and shoot.
There's always one moron that you have to spell things out for. Having the same skillset does not necessarily mean the same level of skill. SMH
Lol. And he still thinks he’s right. The crazy statement most pg’s play off ball is just false especially in today’s NBA. Mind boggling. That’s never been the role of pg’s. Curry is unique in how he can get open like Ray Allen for shots.
You understand Reed's abilities more than most of his fanatics here. For this year at least, the Rockets primarily need him to be a sniper on the offensive end. Alpi, KD and Amen will do most of the playmaking.
“He has almost the exact skillset of CP3 he's just taller and more athletic.“ In this logic Brandin Podz from Golden State has almost the same exact skillset as Booker.
They need him to be both. Someone needs to be able to make plays coming off the bench. They need the best version of Reed
It's okay, I don't expect you to see it....I mean, I would have to completely reevaluate everything if you agreed with a basketball take.
Bro I stated clearly why your logic and statement was erroneous. Please respond in your own words “intelligent” insight why you disagree with me.
It comes down to a dispute over skillset and I don't expect you to have watched enough OR know enough about basketball to understand what you think you are seeing. So what do you think my response is going to be when you roll in here with a hot take that is essentially the opposite of not only my own personal evaluation, but the evaluations done by those who do it professionally that I trust.... Best case when it comes to you, we have a well intentioned casual that just doesn't know any better. Worst case, we have a malicious contrarian. Either way, it's not an opinion I'm terribly interested in.
This isn’t an intelligent response. Hot take would mean there’s no evidence or basis. I gave you assessments backed with facts. Nothing you said had evidence or basis. This not only means you are incapable of formulating an intelligent response but that you’re also a hypocrite. You can’t demand someone respond “intelligently” to you but then offer nothing when challenged. The fact is you’re a charlatan. And you don’t like to be challenged. Almost nothing you say is ever rooted in facts or knowledge but your mere opinion on what and how you think things should work or be. Well your hunch or belief isn’t good enough. It’s not facts. Not substantiated. And when you’re challenged to critically think you respond in anger with insults and disrespect. I don’t respect any of your thoughts on here ever. But what you wrote was so fallacious and problematic so I responded. And as expected you can’t defend your position. I gave you a chance to respond intelligently and insightfully and you failed to do this.
Makes sense that you'd think that given your shortcomings that have already been discussed. Have a nice day.
Trying to hold a conversation with some around here is similar to trying to hold an in depth conversation with a Labrador.... no matter how well you explain things, they are just going to get confused and then **** on the rug. It's best avoided.
I think that we will see Sheppard do a lot of playmaking actually, mostly off screens and passes - but he will do very well with KD and DFS on pass outs to the open man. I think most of his problems are going to be on the defensive end next year.
I'm pretty excited to see Reed lead the summer league team this year. I really hope he plays more aggressive, as in take more 3s when they give him space. I believe he needs to add the pull-up 3 to his bag and I think he can do it consistently for sure. That alone will open up his driving game more. On defense, he really has no better guard than FVV to mentor him. KD was right about smaller guards being phased out of today's league, only the bulldog types or ones with a special skillset will survive. We all know Reed has good instincts on defense, he is good at poking away the ball which he does since he struggles at his size to contest shots.
