Not worth what? A minimum contract? (Which is all we can offer) How is 17ppg 3rpg and 4apg not useful off the bench for this team? OK. He only played 53 games last year. I'll take it for the vet minimum.
Beal at the vet min makes too much sense. This should be option 1A. FVV/Reed Beal/Tari Amen/DFS KD/Bari Sengun/Adams
Yeah, I'd take Beal on the minimum as long as he agrees to come off the bench. Dude can still shoot it. I don't know if Ime or KD want him though, it would probably depend on what those two guys think.
Part of ability is Availability, the question is “Will he even be available when the playoffs roll around?” Dude is always hurt. The playoffs are all that matters for this squad now.
I mean if we acquired him I definitely wouldn't want him starting given his injury history and defensive limitations. If a bench player gets hurt you just shrug and it's the next man up. Can't hurt at the vet minimum.
If there wasn’t enough of a role and minutes for Cam, it’s tough to see the space for us to be an enticing destination for Beal. What would we do? Glue Reed or Eason to the bench? Trade one of them? The minutes just aren’t there. Our final vet min spot pretty much has to be a guy who’s okay with not being guaranteed rotation minutes.
Whitmore didn’t get minutes because his attitude sucked and he wasn’t good enough. Beal would be a 6th man of the year candidate and it would allow us to rest FVV, KD and DFS more.
Map out the rotation and tell me how you come up with enough minutes for someone to win 6MOY. FVV (30) / Sheppard (18) Thompson (32) / Eason (16) DFS (26) / Durant (12) / Eason (10) Durant (18) / Smith (26) / Sengun (4) Sengun (28) / Adams/CC (20) Where does 25+ minutes come from? Between Smith, Eason, Reed, Holiday, Tate, and us having 2 backup C’s, the vets can have all the rest they want as is. There’s already a slight minutes crunch (IF we plan on giving Reed real minutes this year, if not what a waste of a pick)
I can already predict the future, CF getting pissed at Holiday getting so much backup minutes because our guard depth is so shallow. We are like what? 3M under the cap? We should use that money to sign Beal to the vet min once he gets bought out. I mean he always said he was happy playing with KD. Beal on that horrible contract is a terrible deal but on a vet min off the bench? I wouldn't mind.
Last potential trade we might see is Sheppard for a guard or Sheppard for picks. That would be $10 million shaved off giving us 14.5 million to find what we need to share time with Amen. No rumors are swirling about Sheppard, so we will likely have Sheppard play both the 1 and 2. FVV/Sheppard/Holliday Amen/Sheppard/? Jabari/Finney-Smith/Tate Durrant/Tari/Green Sengun/Smith/Capella When you play positionless basketball, you really only need a SF who can guard a SG. This way you can run 3 forwards 1 guard and 1 center. Your PG is the only player not playing positonless and plays as a facilitator who is looking for scoring opportunities and mismatches. The way Durrant plays, he plays more like a SG, so you have essentially moved the focus of your offense from the SG to the PF. I like Tate, but if we moved both him and Sheppard for a true SG, that would make the team more balanced. The two contracts that act like anchors the most for the team are Tate and Green, imo. The question Ime and Stone have to ask themselves is: Does their depth overwhelm the fact that the team is out of balance at the guard position. Ime seems to be cooking something up, so I'll just trust him. Edit: Nevermind. I was looking at 24-25 salaries. Green is $3.6 and Tate is $2.6, which is perfect for their roles.
