He pouts for sure, that can be easily taken care of, you are looking at a 19 and 20 year old and acting like that is all he will ever be? Lots of players pout - especially when they see others getting opportunities that they think they should also get but it is a maturity issue, not a lack of talent issue, and ....AND it shows they care - which is half the battle getting guys that DIE to win, CARE to compete, you hold onto those personality types at all cost. DD
Yeah since I have been alive those bastards have won the NBA Finals 11 times. The next closest is Chicago at 6 and it gets even worse than that when you expand it to all sports the Yankees (f them too) won the World Series 7 times, the Patriots (f them too) won the Super Bowl 6 times, and the Oilers & Penguins won the Stanley Cup 5 times each. So those a-wipes have a 4 title lead hence my signature.
I actually agree with this. Cam screwed it up for himself too, so there is plenty of blame to go around, but wasting a talent like that is going to look like a huge missed opportunity one day.
he’s still on the team, what we don’t know is how much of this is his team pushing for a change of scenery
Still hoping the Rockets keep him and were just trying to appease him wanting to go elsewhere for a more guaranteed role. "Hey Cam, we tried. Didnt find a deal we liked. Lets work it out."
Cam’s issues are great timing happening, in off season. Unwinding now instead of the regular season is ideal. Just let it happen for the sake of the team now. Just imagine if we had responsibilities tied to him. He is what he is.
I really liked Cam and am still semi high on him. But guys who believe unwaveringly that he’s the next Jaylen Brown need to really understand what it takes to be a star in this league. Do you realize, understand and comprehend how smart a Jaylen Brown is?! Listening to the Durant interview with LBJ and Nash made me appreciate much more how basketball savviness and general intelligence (and as important, character) in driving the path to bball stardom. Having historic athleticism is far from enough. Now revisit these Cam interviews and tell me that he’s anything near that level. Maybe with a team with an over abundance of patience he can be elevated to be somewhat commensurate with his said potential (and I will argue that that ceiling some of you clamor about is not really attainable taken into the real character aspect of things and - I hate to say it but have to be brutally honest - general (lack of) intelligence), but unfortunately that team most likely, won’t be your Houston Rockets. Unless we get a total, unconditional buy-in from Cam, I think we should move on.
Watch this video of Cam and you will see moments of brilliance BBall IQ wise, particularly on defense. You see moments that only superstar players do in this video, this is why I believe he has star power in him, you add that competitiveness and BBall IQ, and you get greatness. People saying he lacks IQ are just not paying enough attention, yes, he makes decisions that make you scratch your head, but I believe those are just him being competitive and trying to make an impact to get more playing time, which is not what the coach is looking for, tbh. But if you look at all the games he got more run, you start to see things like him blocking guys from behind, or rotating in, and this is against GREAT players like Tatum.... He just needs time to grow and he will be special - now - maybe that isn't here, but to me, when you have that and you don't foster it, that is a breakdown in what you are literally supposed to do, in getting players to reach their potential. DD
What I keep saying. Coaches and this organization have been working closely with this guy for past 2 years, there must be reason why they don't think he'll get better than what he has showed them. Not saying that he doesn't have a chance to flourish, but it won't be on this team.
I don't trust Ime to win a ring, I see problems with his approach, he reminds me of Thibedaux, great coaches can work with all personality types, and coach players up, anyone can coach KD, and FVV.....but can they get a talented headstrong player and coach them up? Like Pop did with Tony Parker and Ginobli, or Phil Jackson did with Kobe, or here in Houston with Rudy and Madmax? Those are championship coaches, now maybe Ime will get one with this team, with or without Cam, I certainly hope so, but have my doubts. DD
Probably the same reason why he dropped to us at 20. But we gave him a chance...after 2 years here we are.
Personally I can understand the playmaking skill development, wanting a bigger role/minutes and buy in due to personal ambition, but I don't buy the intelligence framing. Cam doesn't have to be Jaylen Brown, LeBron or Amen, he can develop his own potential and run his own race. Sometimes people see a kid with braids or tattoos and assume he lacks intelligence. Clean cut Reed lacked defensive reads and had errors at 20 but it doesn't mean his defensive IQ is poor as he can develop his talent/skill over seasons and gets the benefit of doubt rather than giving up. Being drafted at 19 and still developing your game at 20 is a skill issue which many NBA players develop over years, working things out for buy in and will issues take both sides including leadership. But giving up on a 20 year old with high upside talent on a cheap contract is a poor move imo. At least work with him for the duration of his rookie contract. The kid averaged 25 points per 36 minutes at one point, we need offense now and when Durant retires, work it out.
The new CBA means there is so much less time to develop players. Cam would not be the first really, really talented player to flourish on a new team, nor would he be the first to never be able to fulfull their talent because of a lack of maturity. Jobs, careers and legacies are on the line right now with the Rockets. If Cam interferes with their immediate goals, they will jettison him.
How can you not love that guy, I mean this is a great video of Cam, clearly a High IQ guy, and VERY hard worker....You BUILD around players like that, you don't trade them. He isn't about building a brand, he is just about BBall.....GOD I hope we keep him. DD
Pop chased away Kawhi Leonard who then went on to win a Championship with FVV playing some PG. The Spurs haven't won since. The Spurs were very picky on their players. They wanted high IQ, Team-first, defensive effort, work ethic, maturity, and mental toughness. I think Cam has a fine work ethic, but the rest of his game does not scream Spur. It is easy to get along with players when you are selective on the players one brings in.
Did Ime have any control of Boston’s roster or did he just take them to the finals after Danny Ainge & Brad Steven’s bout the team? Serious question cause I want to know
IIRC mgmt brought in players like Pritchard, Hauser, Kornet that Ime didn't play them much. I guess Pritchard got minutes, but not as a starter.
