Ezra Klein's podcast about the bill was interesting. Trump's populist instincts - preserving Medicaid, Social Security, etc. - run afoul of Republican orthodoxy that demands tax cuts for the wealthy. He, as a rich man, also likes tax cuts.

Turns out there isn't a lot of spending that people want to see cut because there isn't that much waste. It's why DOGE was a sideshow. If a society wants things like health insurance and social security then it has to raise revenue, via taxes, instead of tripling-down on trickle-down.

 

But how will bezos pay for his $50 mil wedding ??

 

They need to touch all of those, plus the military.

 

There is no better way to raise overall tax revenue than to put money in people's pockets and grow the economy. Just like what happened with Trump's first tax cuts in 2017. It's a proven formula... and the partisan CBO refuses to acknowledge the economic growth this bill will bring... and btw the CBO's track record of projections is atrocious.

Or did you think the only way to grow tax revenue is to increase the rate? Wow if so.

(Bloomberg) -- Gamblers are raising the alarm about a $1.1 billion tax hike buried in the Senate GOP’s tax bill that would slash their net winnings and potentially charge income tax when they break even or lose money.

In the Senate’s roughly 900-page version of President Donald Trump’s multitrillion-dollar tax bill, gamblers would only be able to deduct 90% of their losses when calculating their net income. Under current law, a bettor can deductthe entirety of their losses, up until the amount of their gambling winnings.

 

This is HISTORIC legislation that will avoid the largest tax increase in history and put an extra $13,300 per year in each middle class family's pocket. Border wall FUNDED. Newborn savings accounts FUNDED. Military FUNDED. Low cost forms of energy PROTECTED.

Another thing I love about this BBB legislation is an expansion of the ABLE savings accounts for those with disabilities. Trump taking care of the disabled. This bill has benefits for literally everyone.
