Like I said, it all depended on how he felt after the long half-inning...the extra long 3-run half inning helped I'm sure.
I was saying last season he was disappointing. He wasn't bad, just disappointing - but nobody agreed with me. Now, he's not even hitting decently. His only saving grace is the fact he's a catcher - a 100 OPS+ would be passable. But again, he's not even doing that.
Explain to me how in the hell Hummel wasn't further along the basepaths. I was shocked when I didn't see him scoring with ease, instead being a dead duck. He should have been halfway to 3rd when the ball bounced. I bet he barely turned passed 2nd.
His defense has been fine. Also he handles the pitching staff well. He has had a bad 1st half of the season offensively.
They rolled out their 5 best relievers last night, they rolled out 2 of them again tonight while the game was tied.
When he batted 8th a few games ago, he had 3 hits including a HR. Joe put him 5th the very next game. I think Diaz should bat 8th or 9th until he digs out of his slump. A little less pressure.
Middle of August, Clemens pitching another dandy vs Milwaukee having lowered his ERA to 1.26. At this point I am seriously wondering if he could really threaten Gibson's 68 season. Then he gets pummeled in the 7th inning.
