I think the thing is seeing how Reed develops this season. If he can't be decent off the bench, then his salary is the matching salary for an upgrade at the G spot.
I expected more of 2/3 like NAW or Ellis, instead of a 3/4 like DFS. Hoping DFS hasn't slowed down too much.
I would try and move Cam for a lightly protected pick years out from a desperate older team like Milwaukee or Lakers if they have any to give... Top 4 protected at most... can push his value into future when we may have to move guys for tax reasons.
They will only be used to create space for players we’ve already signed. I think it’s going to be a while before this thread gets much real action. But I predict we will see Reed’s name here quite a bit eventually.
Agree, not much action after Cam and Jock early on, but instead of Reed, I believe we'll have some FVV deals thrown out as we reach the trade deadline.
I think we’ll see some FVV scenarios, too, but people will tolerate him if we’re winning. But it appears they are going to give Reed a real opportunity this year. If he’s not able to cut into Fred’s minutesq, people are going to start calling for an upgrade.
I can see this. On-ball PGs take the longest to develop. I can see people losing their stuff if Reed only has a normal amount of improvement. That said, I expect the Rockets will be looking to transition from FVV to Reed sometime in the next 2 seasons. With cap only going up 7%, there is going to be real pressure on finding out if Reed can take over sooner. While I think FVV has been valuable the past two seasons, any semblance of Reed being ready is going to turn the FVV haters into overdrive in this thread. Probably doesn't even need Reed to do well, but if he does do well...people like me will be posting mock trade proposals with FVV.
My belief (and hope) is we see a confident Reed this year. The kid can be a lighting rod for our bench with his shooting, playmaking and BBIQ. Depending on what wings he works with (likely DFS and Tari) and with Adams/Capela in the middle he'll have help on the defensive end. This should allow us to take advantage of his ability to play passing lanes and poke at ball-handlers. Depending on how Ime covers the SG hole with either an improved shooting Amen or an additional wing may become our biggest concern. If we're able to secure a useful player from a Cam/Jock deal this could become moot. Or maybe we bring back a guy like EG, Burks, Melton, etc.
I believe that transition is definitely the plan. Reed needs to be pushing Fred for minutes. I think that when the extension of Fred was announced and they talked about a continued partnership beyond this contract, that is what they are talking about. Fred and the team would probably like for him to sign as the backup in two years. I just predict that all of this means this will not be as lively a thread as it has been in recent years. I’m sure @R=$ will still throw some food for thought to us from time to time.

If FVV fails it will be because of Ime, not Fred. Fred is capable of 40% 3 pt shooting if he limited to spot up 3’s. DFS is capable of 40%, Jabari is capable of 40%, Durant is always a 40% 3 pt shooter. If Reed comes thru add another 40% 3 pt shooter. Stone has done a masterful job. We will be the best rebounding team in the league and maybe the best defensive team in the league.
Actually I just closed the keyboard and it did itself. I came back later and wrote the post and didn’t realize it was there.
Modify our trades to include Whitmore and the 2029 Suns and Mavs pick to LA with the understanding that they will waive Lebron. With Lebron signing a 2 year vet min deal Sengun/Adams/Capela Smith/Eason James/DFS Durant/Reed Amen/FVV
