The Astros system have a few players that could be transitioning/growing.

Kenni Gomez is noticeably bigger and he is starting to hit with more power.

A lot of balls that would be doubles are traveling farther.

He is also running better than in the past with the added muscle.

I have no idea what he becomes, but he has physically changed a lot over the last two years and that can impact a young player.

He was very good in May but not June - and he still struggles against lefties.

The glove IMO is better than what I saw a year ago, but the Astros are loaded with good-gloved outfielders.

Paredes is the perfect extension candidate. He isn't going to command a huge contract, and he plays better here than anywhere else. He's also been incredibly consistent through out his career. He is who he is which only plays for a few teams. Tampa and Us being the top two. We really need an answer at 2nd base in the very near future. I hope Brice is that guy. We have 2 years to replace Pena unless we can get him to sign an extension. I wonder in a 8 year extension would get it done or has Boras told him, he will get the contract Correa got before people knew about his ankle issues if he waits.

Big for both guys. Fleury is going to be on the 40 man this fall so there’s no barrier to him playing himself onto the big league roster this season if there’s an opening. Mayer is a really high ceiling prospect and getting to AA this early into his first full season is a great sign.

I am a bit wary about Mayer because every breakout pitcher in this organization seems to get derailed by some kind of injury soon after.

Huge for him, though. A solid showing will probably put him in the system's top 10.

How was Mayer so bad at Missouri?

He missed all of 2023 with an injury. It also looks like some of his era in 2024 was due to bad batted ball luck.

In some not-great news, Anderson Brito was placed on the Asheville IL last week.

Yay, statcast data for Fleury! I'm interested to see how he handles the hitter friendly environment. Given his track record of throwing strikes, it wouldn't surprise me to see him leapfrog Ullola to make starts in the majors if they need another arm.

Kevin Alvarez finished 3-3 with an RBI single, a double, and scored a run in the DSL Blue team's 3-0 win over the Royals' Ventura team.

First 75 plate appearances: .348/.427/.561 with 2 home runs and 19 RBI. 5 walks, 8 strikeouts.

Anderson Areinamo started July by hitting the go ahead HR in the top of the 9th. He went 3-5 with a 2B, HR, BB and 2 SB. He's now leading Astros DSL players in HRs (3) and steals (9) and has yet to be caught stealing. Really impressive debut.

Thought about it a little more... if Alvarez and Arenaimo are still hitting at this rate by the time the DSL does their All-Star game (July 20), put them both on a plane to the US.

Zach Cole had a 961 ops in June despite a 36% k rate. He just his hit 9th HR of the year tonight. Tremendous power/speed/defense combo, so sad it’s paired with such poor pitch recognition and contact ability.

Lucas Spence could be playing his way into a Corpus cameo later this year.
