Paramount Pictures has premiered the teaser traile for Edgar Wright’s new adaptation of Stephen King’s short story “The Running Man” The new take is said to be more akin to that original work than the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger-led film that skewed more sci-fi. In a near-future society, The Running Man is the top-rated show on television—a deadly competition where contestants, known as Runners, must survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins, with every move broadcast to a bloodthirsty public and each day bringing a greater cash reward. Desperate to save his sick daughter, working-class Ben Richards (Glen Powell) is convinced by the show’s charming but ruthless producer, Dan Killian (Josh Brolin), to enter the game as a last resort. But Ben’s defiance, instincts, and grit turn him into an unexpected fan favorite – and a threat to the entire system. As ratings skyrocket, so does the danger, and Ben must outwit not just the Hunters, but a nation addicted to watching him fall. Colman Domingo also stars as the show’s host who was the main villain in the prior film but is more a supporting turn this time out. Also starring are Michael Cera, Katy O’Brian, Lee Pace, William H. Macy, Sean Hayes, Jayme LAwson, Karl Glusman, Sandra Dickinson, and Emilia Jones. The project wrapped filming earlier this year and has reportedly landed the full blessing of “The Terminator” star. “The Running Man” hits cinemas on November 7th. https://www.darkhorizons.com/teaser-trailer-edgar-wrights-the-running-man/
Glen Powell has certainly blown up. Top Gun was the perfect movie and role for him to start the climb up and everybody knew it.
Awkwafina already did this in Jackpot!. (Yes...I know this was an old book. This iteration of TRM isn't really anything new.) Trailer looks meh.
As a massive fan of the original, this looks extremely meh. I don’t know why Glen Powel is supposed to be a star now buy when I first heard this was happening i was hoping for Chris Hemsworth, Michael B Jordan or Miles Teller so I already have low expectations but maybe that's a good thing...
Every time Glen Powell has a new movie, all I see are stories for weeks about what an amazing breakout star he is. It feels very manufactured to me. Maybe I'm just being paranoid.
That lead actor was a male lead in a few romantic comedies. It's nice to see him graduating to an action role. That plot has been recently done as others have stated. Not a day 1, might catch it on streaming later.
