Yeah maybe the Mariners pick up a couple games on us before the All-Star break. Time will tell. Sure does feel nice to have a 6.5 game lead though! Hopefully the Royals can help us out.
I understand not wanting to believe Dana but he came on 790 today and said Yordan could be back this weekend. Obviously that’s probably not happening but there’s no chance he is off by an entire month unless he breaks his hand again. And why would he need an entire month if he faced live pitching today? As for Dubin, they already said he isn’t having surgery. If he ends up having it, they likely will have waited too long for him to return next year. Where am I wrong here?
We going 8-4 headed into the All Star break. Without Pena. We will gain games on the division and maybe Yankees and Tigers headed to the break.
Nah. Sweeping the Rockies and going 5-4 against the dodgers, Indians and rangers. Of which 6 are at home. maybe it’s 7-5. But I bet it’s 8-4.
What kind of contract is Framber going to get and why can't we afford it? Is he going to get a long term contract that Crane is normally against?
I like it. This team is a weirdo freight train. Maybe our opponents don’t know what to do when faced with luminaries like Walter, Gordon, Hummel and guillorme.
He’s tracking toward something like $220M/7yrs. Crane probably doesn’t want to offer him anything more than about $140M/5yrs and definitely won’t offer him more than ~$170M/6yrs. He’s gone.
Not much daylight between the career stats of Valdez and Fried. And Fried signed last year, so actually Valdez will have logged about a year's more innings by the time he's due his contract. So Fried is a proper comp. 8/218 I was calling for 8/200. We will need to bite the bullet and go long on Framber. No injury history, constantly goes deep into games. He's about as sure of a bet as you can get. Framber is 69-37 with a 3.07 ERA since becoming a full time starter. His 162 game avg is a 17-9 record and a 4.4 WAR. He's vintage Justin Verlander statistically. Did I mention he's really dependable?
I’d rather use that money to extend Pena and/or give Cam Smith a Julio Rodriguez type deal. Perhaps even work something out with Hunter Brown. Framber is awesome and it’ll suck to see him go but this team is elite at developing pitchers. We will be fine without him moving forward.
Framber is on track to have a better platform year than any season Fried has had in his career. There are any number of things that could derail that, but if Framber tops 5 fwar and finishes the season healthy, I will be shocked if he doesn’t top $200M. Fwiw as much as I love Framber, I don’t think it would be smart for the Astros to offer him more than ~$170M/6yrs, and that’s if he keeps pitching this well thru the end of the season and into the playoffs. Ideally they could’ve signed him for something like $140M/4yrs this spring but that ship has sailed.
Colorado series looks like LWW to me. 2 & 3 game Colorado have 2 terrible LHP starting which should suit us not even counting Brown dominating. The 1st game is a trap game. For us. Colorado righty has ERA over 6, but had last year in minors 2.59 ERA, 118 IP / 169 K. Without Pena, prob Trammel playing we are that minors lineup. Hopefully Im wrong and Paredes, Smith and Altuve will go off.
With the way the org continues to develop pitching, I'd rather us use that money on the position side...although maybe it's a wash with how poorly we tend to spend money on the position side lol
Use the money to lock up the pitching coaches and all their assistants and analysts. But also to extend Paredes.
