If they can still find a way to add a good combo guard and stay under the 1st Apron, even if it takes until the deadline, it’s a good add. If they are screwed out of making any more deals this season then it is an extreme gamble on Reed being a positive contributor.

If the Rockets choose to go this route, I will become extremely vocal about what an idiotic move they did!!

    Rockets:
I know our timeline has dramatically changed this offseason, and perhaps we can do better without him in the lineup, but to completely trade him for pennies on the dollar just because Ime's skin isn't thick enough to handle a 20yr old's (WANTING MORE PLAYING TIME) tantrums is asinine! The kid has REAL potential and that is why multiple teams have him on F5!! Do your due diligence if your going to trade him!!!!

I know I'm in the extreme minority on this forum, but I've always felt that after Amen, Cam has the most potential to be a legit star in the league! There I said it... It's an opinion not a fact so don't get your panties all twisted.

@roslolian, I piggied off your post to respond about second rounders only! The rest is just a rant I had to get off my chest solely for sanity purposes...

KD is on his last legs. The window is very small. You'd hate for the season to go down the drain just because your center gets injured and you have no quality backup.

"The Clippers just signed a backup stretch 5 for $9m so that's not really valid. "

You cited their signing. If you're saying that's a bad signing then why bring up?

    Jabari is 6'11" and 220 shooting 35% from 3.

Brook Lopez is 7'1" and 282 shooting 37% from 3.

I'll give you he's a much thicker guy, but it's 2% more at an age of diminishing abilities.

Myles Turner is same height as Jabari and about 25 pounds more. He shot 39% from 3.

It's reasonable to expect some improvement in Jabari's shooting. You're also not asking him to do it full time.

You asked if I was citing the Clippers as an example of good management. I didn't say that anywhere in the quote or anywhere else. I think you're interested in a different discussion that I'm not at all curious about. Hope that answers your question.

I think has the potential to be really good, but it doesn’t look like Ime is going to let it happen here. We only have 1 offensive pg and that is Amen. If Reed can prove he can drive, finish or dish, then he becomes another. FVV has never been a creator (which is what PG’s are supposed to be). Holiday is just a spot up shooter that should never see the court other than injury.

Clint averaged 21 mpg last year in 55 games, Adams 14 mpg in 58 games

If they try to split minutes even between the two, you could do it as

30 games Adams gets 18-20 mpg
30 games Clint gets 18-20 mpg
22 games they both get 9-10mpg

52 games played each, both averaging 15 mpg

It won’t be as clean in real life as on paper with injuries, favored matchups, but you’d imagine there is a frame work they sold Clint (and maybe Adams too) for the minutes / roles they can expect.

We ran 3 big lineups for a while with Nene, and last year Jock, so it’s nothing new.

I understand why they wanted Capela, and I agree with you 100% that one of the chief reasons is rebounding, which is one of the areas that Ime really focuses on to win games. It is similar to MDA and using the 3 pointer. There is no question that Clint is still an elite rebounder, and he isn't afraid or physical play - which is a plus, he just isn't as good a rim protector as he used to be, and isn't quite as mobile. At the end of the day, the move for Capela is fine and is a typical Stone move - it doesn't carry a lot of risk because the amount is fairly low.

7 mil a year isn’t going to kill us but still don’t like 3 years guaranteed when you also gave Adams a multi year guarantee. Adams is already a backup center, right? Do you typically lock in your backup and backup to your backup for multiple years? When we are just 2M from the second apron, I worry it could make it tough to make changes if things don’t go as planned and/or injuries. Perhaps the 7M/yr and 21.5M contract is good for future potential trades?

I think it's important to look at Capela as:
    - 3rd string center
    - salary slot added for essentially nothing as part of the Durant deal

They may have tried to get someone else in that slot that became too expensive so this is where they spent the money.

    This is how I feel.

They are putting a lot of pressure on Reed Sheppard and/or Amen Thompson to become offensive creators.

I also agree that I wouldn't go into the LT for Clint Capela, although he is a solid player.

I was told that the Rockets were looking at guards - and then down comes the Capela signing which surprised me.

I didn’t like the move if it hamstrings us to sign some insurance at combo guard. Either could very well be moved by the deadline, however, if Reed doesn’t produce. As it stands now, we are extremely thin at backcourt depth.

Is Adams really the backup center or are we going to see far more minutes for Adams/Capela this season? I don't know for sure, but my suspicion is that we may see a lot more of Adams and Capela getting minutes at the 5, with Sengun playing a lot of the more traditional four. The Rockets greatly improved their shooting adding Durant and DFS, and it is likely that Sheppard and Fred both shoot better than last season. That would allow for the spacing to allow Sengun more on the floor with a Adams/Capela.

This is a FLEXIBILITY trade, in case we trade Sengun we still have enough to compete.
