To me, it looks like the Rockets believe in Reed Sheppard offensively. If this is the case, DFS and NAW would rate highly on the Rockets wish list so they can have Amen and one of them on the court to make it more difficult for teams to attack Sheppard while one of KD, Tari, and JSJ man the 4.
To make more room for DFS, Cam needs to be moved for no returning salary. Cam, 2027 phoenix pick for 2026 phoenix/Washington pick swap in a great draft. 2 FRP’s for one.
For those saying he's too old, whenever he signs this offseason, he'll be exactly one year younger than PJ Tucker was when he signed a full MLE with the Rockets in 2017, with a very similar player profile (great On/Off stats, situationally great 3-point shooting, zero self-creation, toughness). Can't just expect every player to follow an identical aging profile, but obviously that deal worked out really well for Houston, both for on-court results and in being able to move off the deal for positive value.
If DeAndre wants to get another good contract next year, he is going to sign with the Lakers to play PNR with Luka.
I didn't love the DFS idea when I first heard it, but the more I think about it, the more I like it. Basically the team is just saying they don't like SGs at all (Jalen sucked so bad the team just gave up on the entire ass position), and are planning on playing wings full time at the 2. And since we get shot creation/ball handling from the Center position (Sengun), and get shooting from the forwards (KD, Jabari, DFS), then we can afford to focus on defense at the 2 position (Amen and Eason). It is a bold team building strategy, so it caught me off guard as an option -- but I think it freaking works. It fits our unique roster strengths.
could sign straight up. would have to be 4/41 to keep Cam and avoid the tax would have to waive both Cam and Jock if it's above 4/41.
Don't worry - Jimmy Crane said he will let the Rockets borrow the Astros medical staff to evaluate him.
