As long as the contract value makes him tradeable at any point in the future, I'm fine with 4 years. DFS is the kind of player who can come off the bench for a championship contender. You guys that are skeptical about him, I don't think it will take long for most of you to change your mind when you see what he does on the floor every game. Those of you who wanted DB to come off the bench behind Jabari and Tari, you are basically getting your wish if the Rockets sign DFS.
I don't understand this reaction. The trade is a longer contract that favors the player at the back end and the team at the front. It's not like they would agree to a 3-year contract at that salary and then agree separately to a fourth year at the same number. Giving a fourth year is the price you pay for getting a good player at a good cap number in the short term.
Around 12 million per? That contract is an instant trade asset, could easily turn it into an expiring and 2nds to a contender at the deadline
Welp this seems like a forgone conclusion. I don’t hate it as we replace some of Brooks production at a lower cap hit but, we are seriously lacking in the players who can make plays department. I really hope we keep Cam.
They can do better. This is another Ime move. And he is going to start with how easily he falls for the older vets. With the departure of Brooks, Ime is looking for a SF that can harass those malnutritioned powdered milk fed "centers" that loaf at the 3pt line. But someone like Trent Jr, has a 6'9 wingspan and understands angles on offense could easily use that on the defensive end. JVG once said Defense is effort. Look at their last playoff series and their contributions. If they exiled Green because he had a bad series in his debut then Dorian ain't it.
This is where it starts getting a little questionable for me. I don't like the idea of replacing Cam with a vet minimum player just to be able to offer DFS $1M more. Why not keep Cam and get one of the defensive-minded TPMLE candidates? This feels like squandering assets in the way he did while trying to sign Lopez. Even if they don't think Cam has a future on this team, put some work toward maximizing his value. I think he is as good a player as Cam Thomas. No defense, black hole, yada-yada... But Thomas is signing somewhere in the neighborhood of $25M. So even if the Rockets have no intention of signing him to such a deal, they need to get a return that reflects that kind of value. This is where assistant coaches need to be earning their paychecks.
DFS signing is ironically future-looking. Perfect set up for a future trade (Giannis, Luka, etc) Have to hand it to Stone at this point. He’s turned it around since his first two seasons.
