I work with over a dozen Iranian expats all under 40 and I've spent the last week informally asking how they were doing and if anyone they knew was hurt during the conflict (war?). The universal consensus was that they were sad the regime did not fall. Many had family in Tehran whose apartments were damaged in the Israeli attacks. About half of them expressed they were sad Israel did not do more. The other half were sad to see Iran be attacked regardless of the existing regime Now it's important to consider these people willingly left Iran over the last 15 years, they are educated and secular. Many of them hold strong anti-Arab and anti-Islam prejudices as they blame the Arabs for imposing Islam on them 1400 years ago, and they blame Islam for the state of Iran today.

Now this by definition is not generalizable to all Iranians in America, or even Iranians in Iran, but I can say the sentiment was consistent for the small group. I did a similar thing for my Jewish (not Israeli) coworkers after the October attacks, and ultimately everyone endorses wanting people to be able to get along.

It will be interesting to see what the modern states of Iran and Israel look like in 50 years. Or even the United States as we know it for that matter.

Low Confidence Rumor: Israel is planning to carry out another large scale attack on Iran, soon.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs confirmed a few days ago that the largest of their facilities was so far underground they didn't even bother dropping penetrating bombs on it, they just lobbed some Tomahawks at the above ground portion and called it a day. That's where they believe ~60% of Iran's enriched uranium is stored.

This is of course exactly the predicted outcome, which some people around here were talking about a week before the (Super Secret and Successful Says Hegseth) strikes.

So many members of congress like him are just cartoon characters. How can we have a functioning republic or democracy when politicians are just looking for the viral tweet or social media clip instead of willing to have meaningful thoughtful conversations about the issues facing their constituents.

funny how u can be anti-black, anti-Muslim, anti so many other things, and it’s not an issue

    but anti-“semite” and you’re finished

and they’ll call anything anti-semitic as well

if u want America to get off its knees for Israel, you’re anti-semitic :rolleyes::rolleyes:

If you don’t support war crimes, you’re antisemitic. And you hate God.

Yep, no one has ever suffered any consequences from being called anti-black (aka racist), anti-gay (homophobic), anti-trans (transphobic), anti-Muslim (aka Islamophobic), etc. It is only the people that go after the Jews that are fired or whatever.

This is a fair point. Our society is on the surface fairly intolerant of intolerance. But we use it as a weapon against people we disagree with rather than actually being accepting of people for being different. Racism, homophobia, and religious bigotry run rampant and are acceptable in day to day interactions. We like people who are like us and dislike people who are not like us.

    I must’ve missed where that woman raised a million dollars for calling a 5 y/o the n-word

I must’ve missed the push to ban teaching about black history under the guise of CRT, DEI or whatever dog whistle is the new flavor of the month

I must’ve missed what they were saying about Juneteenth

also must’ve missed all the right wing grifters posting racist anti-black garbage all day with no consequences

must’ve also missed when Candace Owens was spreading anti-black rhetoric and getting paid handsomely for it, but the minute she started talking about Israel she was booted from the Daily Wire

must’ve also missed when Kanye was talking about slavery being a choice, making white lives matter merch, etc and it was crickets

but when he started spouting the Nazi and Hitler stuff that’s when the uproar started and that tweet got deleted

they’ve been talking about pardoning Derek Chauvin

now we’re attacking universities and free speech on behalf of Israel…bombing Iran on behalf of Israel…obsessing over what mayoral candidates think of Israel

imagine attacking the 1st Amendment on behalf of a foreign nation…and these people are supposed to be “America 1st”

Trump during his campaign talking about how if a politician talked bad about Israel it would be the end of their career and we need to get back to that o_Oo_O
