The biggest drop off after OL was in the number of dropped passes last year. It wasn't huge, but it was enough.
Is this the same Mike Evans that was from Galveston that we were talking about adding before we obtained Diggs?
To think some were upset that Caserio traded up in the 3rd rd to pick Collins. Imagine how much better this team would be if Caserio had picked Meinertz instead of Mills in the 3rd rd.
There were both focus drops by the receivers and slightly less friendly throws, some of which were catchable and some not. What I find interesting is the focus on contested ball rate which indirectly associates with a lower focus drop rate. I think both skills require focus through the catch. Then MAINTAIN POSSESSION. We seem to be avoiding offensive turnover players like they have the plague and drawn to defensive turnover generating players like honey.
There were people who really liked Meinertz a lot and said so at the time. BTW, I liked Meinertz but was happy with the Mills pick. Caserio needed to try to find a QB in the worst way.
I wanted Meinertz, but I wanted Joseph Ossai more... Mills was not on my radar. I liked the Collins pick, but was afraid we had given up too much to go get him. But I figured Pep knows Collins
I have no doubt some had the foresight to prefer others who might have worked out better. But you also have to acknowledge there are at least as many who would have chosen worse. I just want my pros to do better than I would have. And I have to say they did since I put too much stock in the now discredited mental tests and was advocating WAJ and Carter as our first two picks. Of course these are a year apart, but I wasn't as focused in 2022. I guess I was persuaded that there were at least 3 better expected QBs in 2024 and was willing to wait.
Pep and Ben McDaniels made me comfortable in trading up. Of course I'm glad always wants to trade up and get his guys rather than sitting there and hoping his guys fall to him like RS did missing out on Jimmy G/Lockett etc...
