How is home ownership is a pipe dream in Nordic countries if Norway, Iceland, and Finland all have much higher home ownership than the US citizens? Isn't Sweden's home ownership about the same as us, and only Denmark's lower?

Sad day when vikings can't build their own homes anymore and rely on migrants to do all the hard work. #socialism

Things are genuinely going much better in Scandinavia than America for the median citizen.

If you are wealthy or upper middle class in America you would be inclined to disagree as life can be phenomenal here for those groups, but you aren’t the median American either.

For any family having children parental leave is something Americans can only dream of. A proposed $5,000 baby bonus is nothing compared to what other countries provide in both parental leave and affordable or free healthcare.

We are the only 1 of 6 countries in the world with no government mandated paternity leave, besides the tiny islands of Papaya New Guinea, Micronesia, Naruru, Palau, and the Marshal Islands. But, even those tiny islands offer benefits for some.

In Papua New Guinea public sector employees are allowed to take 6 weeks off before and after delivery with no deductions to their salary. The Micronesian state of Kosrae passed a law mandating 12 weeks of paid leave to female employees in the public sector, regardless of contract type. In Nauru.only public sector employees who have worked for at least 6 months are entitled to 12 weeks of paid maternity leave. In Palau female employees who have a permanent status at work can take a maximum of 30 days of unpaid maternity leave. Marshall Islands technically has paid maternity leave, but it’s only for 20 days at the national minimum wage and is applicable only to the first 4 births.

The Nordic countries have parental leave Americans can only dream of.

Norway allows 49 weeks of shared parental leave at full pay, 15 of which are reserved for each parent. If they want a longer time with their baby, they can also opt to get a total of 59 weeks at 80% pay, with each parent getting no less than 19 weeks each.

Sweden offers 240 days or 34 weeks for each parent at 80% of their regular wages, for a total of 480 days or 68.5 weeks combined. Unlike many countries that don’t extend leave for multiple births, an additional 180 days or 26 weeks are granted for each additional child.

In Iceland, both parents are entitled to a combined total of 12 months of paid maternity and paternity leave. This leave is paid at 80% of the parent's average salary, up to a maximum amount. Each parent is entitled to a minimum of 5 months, with the remaining 2 months being transferable or shared between the parents. This leave can be taken within the first 18 months of the child's birth.

In Denmark both parents are entitled to a total of 52 weeks of parental leave per child, which can be divided between them. For the first 390 days, parents are typically paid around 80% of their salary, up to a certain limit. This leave can be taken before and after the birth of the child.

That, on top of the fact that Nordic countries also have public healthcare systems that cover prenatal care and childbirth, meaning that these services are free or heavily subsidized for residents.

The difference is that Scandinavian countries are made up of almost exclusively highly intelligent and productive people. That's not the composition of the USA. We have weak spots that require support. It takes a lot of money and resources to support the weak spots... which takes away the ability to do free education, health care, parental leave, etc.

Yea and those weak spots tend to vote against their better interest, are really bigoted, and very unintelligent. They wear red hats and love Trump.
