The Rockets were revered as a young, fast and athletic team. It got them all the way to #2 in a tough Western Conference. I thought we could've maintained this style and added
    Khaman Maluach

With Jalen gone and Cam as a possible trade candidate. The only athletic pieces we have left are Amen and Tari.

FVV, KD, Sengun, Reed, Jabari are all players who prefer playing a more slow and methodical brand of basketball.

    Which style do you prefer?

How do you go from revered as an athletic team , trading one player and then no longer being athletic ?

I know we traded brooks too

94-style (center with good 1-on-1 moves surrounded by shooters): Alpe - Bari - KD - ??? - FVV (need another SG/SF with solid outside shot)

Run & Fun (attack passing lanes, play swarming defense + get out fast after a made basket): Aquaman - Tari - Cam - Amen - Reed

So lemme get this straight, if the majority of the roster prefers a slower more methodical pace, why would we force some run-n-gun style?

The Rockets ranked 18th in pace last year. A team is only as fast as it's PG. And the Rockets have a slow PG. Therefore they are going to slow for the most part.

Seems like a loaded post to try and prove a narrative. Slow and steady, we've got KD, why would we be a running team of barely capable finishers any more?

A mix of both. But playoff time you have to be able to play slow, half court style.

    Fact check:
    Transition percentile (overall transition game)

    KD 76.3
    Green 62.1

    Fast break improvement via trade.

The problem is all we could do is run and offensively rebound last year. Now we can run off turnovers or run a good half court set depending on the circumstance

Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast.

this is what came to mind watching Bari mirror KDs shots. Bari is still clunky and slower compared to KD. KDs movements even at his age are so smooth and fast compared to Bari. Youth and quick twitch doesn’t have to mean faster.

Who's going to run? 37yrs old KD? Jabari? Sengun? FVV? We only have one player in the starting lineup who is athletic and that's Amen.

And if you trade Cam, as reports are saying, all we will have is Tari

Thats been the problem. In order to have a style, an identity, you can't have a mix. You have to have a majority, either way.

Look at Indy, all of their players play a fast pace brand of basketball. Same for OKC, except for Hardenstein, which is OK, because they Holmgren to play center. We have Sengun and Adams.

Its looking like the Rockets are going to a slow it down, methodical brand of basketball

Might want to take your foot out of your mouth?

In terms of a simple swap for the starting 5:
KD has better transition percentile than Green
Jabari runs the lanes more than Brooks

    Both are better rebounders
The 2 for 2 swap improves shooting

We improve both on the break AND in the half court with the trade.
    The end.

Those numbers are skewed. Phoenix main scores were guards, so they played primarily at a fast pace, no defense.

The Rockets had FVV at guard and were primarily a defensive team without an offensive identity.

Well, since I started this thread, I think I should be the one to end it.

You just took away one of the most athletic players in the league and although Im glad they kept Jabari, he is not overly athletic. And KD, although a very good shooter, he is 37yrs old. As good as LeBron still is, he is not the same player he was.....AGE TAKES ITS TOLL.

If we get 60 games out of KD next yr, Im happy.

Fast breaks aren't about who can sprint the fastest. Sure it helps, but players who anticipate, understand court geometry, and realize the ball travels faster than any player can make a fast break offense go. Well, that, steals, and defensive rebounds.
