New York City will prosper just as much with Mamdani as it would without him. He will be a fantastic Mayor compared to Adams.

 

I can't speak for the deep south or whatever group you hate, but I can tell you its very concerning the Democrat party keeps trying to move left instead of moderate. And its not that I care that Democrats continue on doubling down on a losing strategy, but that it makes the other side of the coin (Republican's/conservative/MAGA or whatever group you hate) becomes less competitive. We have seen some of the weakest tickets in the last decade and its clear neither side is looking to challenge the slide into further mediocracy.

If you think Trump is bad, I can't wait to tell you all about the next Republican candidate who will be even worse ... and win.

 

The Democratic and Republican coalitions from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s are non-existent. If Democrats want to be Republican lite, they'll continue to lose to MAGA candidates who promise outright lies that they cannot deliver. Clearly New Yorkers (city) agreed with his platform.

Imagine defending this. The man hates capitalism. Cities spend decades trying to attract businesses and this idiot wants to run them all out. He wants better ways to spread wealth. How does one redistribute wealth if wealth is not being created?

Do people who support this idiot not understand why North Korea sucks? Very little wealth is created and after the elite takes the lion share, the reminder is left to those who contribute little.

 

I agree with his platform. Its just that its a completely unrealistic so therefore completely idiotic ...and he knows it so therefore its all lies.

 

Newsflash: Trump won and Mamdani will win because our Capitalist economic system does not benefit the ordinary person. And they're pissed off for being passed over. Productivity Profits and GDP grow but real wages are stagnant.

 

That's actually a really popular sentiment among MAGA grassroots voters as well as Dem voters. It speaks to your elitist nature that you think capitalism is popular, and his statement here is radical.

I don't personally think capitalism is bad. I think regulated capitalism is the best economic system out there, but what we have now is crony capitalism with growing wealth inequality. Therefore the vast majority of people just conflate capitalism with our recent history of the perversion of capitalism post Reagan & the gutting of regulation.

 

It's the DemoCRATIC party. I know you are doing the McCarthy thing where you leave off the cratic part to emphasize the Rat in Democrat. Again, your tactics have just become so sloppy. At least be a more clever hack.

Also I'm from the deep south. As someone from the most uncultured part of the south being the state of Florida (not including Miami of course which I highly doubt you live in) I think you need to hold your horses thinking you understand the deep south.

Mamdani doesn't meet the qualifications to run for Senator, yet. The law requires that a candidate be a U.S. citizen for at least 9 years.

Interestingly, qualifications for Governor vary by state. I think Georgia requires the candidate be a U.S. citizen for 15 years, which is the longest. In some states, it is only 5 years.

How Democratic Failure Made Mamdani
Andrew Cuomo’s policies planted the seeds of his own defeat.

The Democratic establishment is upset about socialist Zohran Mamdani’s victory in this week’s New York City Democratic mayoral primary. But Mr. Mamdani couldn’t have done it without the establishment’s help—to wit, the failure of big-city Democratic governance.

Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco—all are run by Democrats, and all are wracked by crime, homelessness and a punishing cost of living. New York City is another example, and Mr. Mamdani capitalized on voter frustration.

Start with sky-high rents. In 2019 then Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a law that restricted landlords’ ability to raise rents to pay for renovations and “de-regulate” rent-stabilized units, which account for more than 40% of the city’s rental housing. Landlords responded by removing tens of thousands of units from the market.

Mr. Cuomo also imposed a long Covid eviction moratorium, which applied to commercial property. This caused landlords to raise rents to compensate for nonpaying tenants. Property taxes have risen to feed the public-union machine, as Mr. Cuomo’s 2011 property tax cap exempted New York City.

Mr. Cuomo campaigned in 2010 for Governor on letting the state’s millionaire’s tax expire, only to repeatedly extend it. In spring 2021 he raised the city’s top income-tax rate to 14.8% from 12.7% and the business franchise tax to 7.25% from 6.5% even as government coffers were awash in federal Covid cash.

His Covid lockdowns and tax hikes fueled the flight of high earners and businesses. New York City’s population declined by some 320,000 between 2020 and 2024, despite an influx of foreign migrants. Why didn’t more Wall Street bankers vote this week for Mr. Cuomo? Perhaps because they now live in Miami.

Mr. Cuomo banned fracking upstate and vetoed three pipelines that aimed to move cheap natural gas from Pennsylvania’s Marcellus shale to the state. He also pressured the Indian Point nuclear plant, which provided cheap, reliable power to the city, to shut down in 2021.

The predictable result: Electricity and natural gas shortfalls, which have pushed up prices. Electric bills in the city increased on average by 37% and gas prices 29% between 2020 and 2024. Businesses have passed along their higher energy costs to customers.

Ditto higher labor costs. Mr. Cuomo in 2016 boosted the city’s minimum wage to $15 an hour from $9. It’s now $16.50. The higher minimum has slammed hospitality and retail businesses that employ less-skilled workers. New York City has imposed even higher wage minimums for ride-share drivers and food deliveries, which has made these services less affordable for the average Andrew.

Shoplifting has increased thanks to a 2019 law that Mr. Cuomo signed eliminating cash bail for most nonviolent crimes. Businesses have compensated for theft losses by raising prices. New Yorkers are forced to pay more at stores because their good progressive leaders allow criminals to pilfer with impunity.

The bail law has also led to more fare evasion and crime on public transit. Fewer people are taking subways because of safety risks. Subway and bus fare revenue is $900 million lower than in 2019 while labor costs have increased by $2 billion thanks to the generous union agreements Mr. Cuomo approved.

Mr. Cuomo in 2019 approved New York City’s congestion tax on drivers entering Manhattan’s business district to raise money for the city’s deteriorating subways. But last spring he called for suspending the tax because—get this—the city still hadn’t recovered from his Covid lockdowns and was struggling with crime, quality of life problems and high taxes.

Before Mr. Mamdani’s rise, the former Governor sensed a brewing backlash against the results of progressive governance. But he mostly refused to repudiate the policies that gave rise to the discontent, letting the fresh-faced Mr. Mamdani run on such leftist nostrums as a rent freeze and government supermarkets.

The failure of Democratic urban governance is one of the tragedies of 21st-century America. Mr. Mamdani’s ideas are bound to fail, but it’s not surprising that Democratic voters didn’t trust Mr. Cuomo and the rest of the party establishment to do any better.

Correct. So why is maga and Fox News and the Trump activist posters here freaking out about him winning a mayoral primary in NY City? I mean if he beat John Cornyn here in Texas for a Senate seat I would get the concern but it’s NYC. I thought MAGA hates NYC anyways.

I know plenty of NYC Democrats who are also extremely concerned about Mamdani winning the primary due to what they perceive as radical views and some alarming comments he has made, total lack of experience, etc.

 

It is like the conservatives hate Mamdani since he successfully ran on "the price of eggs" ... and ... he will certainly do something about it.
