For Cam to be 6th man of the year, he would need to completely change his mindset and mentality of "I'll never be a starter so I'm going to do everything I can to be a scorcher off the bench". Players who become 6th men usually completely buy into their roles or are just superstars in hiding (Harden). The latter is very rare. Anyways, I just don't see it with Cam. He is too young to buy-in to the fact he will never be a starter on a team. He hasn't really improved much over the years either. Still the same tunnel vision guy who can't do much else but score. That award usually goes to players who can not only score but defend or playmake as well.
I agree but that’s a hard mentality to shake especially when you have. Most of the media and your peers around the league who believe you are the real deal. A lot of nba media media is saying g it’s Cams time and the trade opened what should be minutes for him. Draymond, Jeff Teague , Gil’s arenas, Paul George have all come out post kd trade and said Cam needs to be next in Houston and they don’t understand why he didn’t get minutes last season
Yep, 20 year old immature player, happens all the time. This is Ime's job to get that out of him - lots of great players did this. Hell KOBE ****ING BRYANT wouldn't shoot the ball in the 4th quarter of a playoff game because he was lashing out at all the criticism of him shooting too much. Game 7 against the Suns in 2006: During this game, Bryant took only 3 shots in the second half and zero shots in the fourth quarter and the lakers blew a 3-1 series lead. 20, Cam is 20....about to be 21 - if he is coachable, he will grow up and be something, there is a DIRTH of NBA players that were immature at 20....and become very good to great NBA players as they aged and matured. DD
Lots of “don’t know”s. How about find out the answers yourself. Like ask the coach what areas he wants you to improve?
See I read that as he knows, but didn't want to tell the REPORTER that - I mean if he says that, it makes him look bad, or makes the org look bad, this is a 20 year old frustrated kid struggling with reporters - nothing more. He said nothing of consequence yet, many of the JALENStans are here just because they are mad that their favorite got traded......and Cam didn't. It is legit to say he is immature and needs work, but it is not legit to say he was a bad egg, or uncoachable - he is just immature. DD
Cam bringing the energy spark and joy to the court. ok. Look, he's genuine, but that doesn't really inspire the men around you who are also making sacrifices. And there are more sacrifices to make when Durant arrives. Not less.
So 10 don’t knows in a one minute interview doesn’t make him look bad? And how do you know he knows? And if he does, WTF does he not work on those areas to get more playing time?
I think Ime believes that defense and effort is the most consistent aspect of basketball and believes that should be the central focus with such a young team. This is a process, I have no doubt Ime is aware of balance and the importance of offense. It was pretty unfathomable from being a consecutive three time bottom 3 team in the league to 2nd in the west two seasons later. Ime and staff are either going to evolve as the team does or get replaced. However, it's still early to be worried about the offense long term.
Hahahah that’s gold As far as Cam is concerned, it’s hard to be a sixth man off the bench when your ass is glued to the bench.
I like Cam, i was low key hopeful on him improving with the minutes that would be available, until i saw this: I think it's going to be very hard to change his mentality.
I have a feeling the presence of KD will help rein Cam in. He might think he is most talented player on the Rockets, but I bet even his ego acknowledges that he will never reach KD's level. If KD talks to him, I think he'll take it to heart.
The dreamcasting around Cam is over the top. 6th man? How bout he becomes a good basketball player first. He’s still learning the game. I’m really hoping I see a different player this next season. If he’s just a chucker he’s not gonna work out here. Really hoping he’s working his ass off on the things the coaching staff wants from him. I this is where the maturity questions see important. It’s not just about pouting during the season. Will he put in the work in the offseason? We gonna find out. but yeah, I’m just hoping he’s improved his defense and court vision. If those are noticeably improved they won’t be able to keep him off the floor.
It's weird that the Rockets had zero picks in this draft, yet they're starting this off-season with the potential to add two of the best under-22-year-olds to their regular rotation (Reed and Cam). We need them to produce alongside Amen and Jabari, who would have also been draft-eligible this year.
