What’s wrong with using the state to boost families? I was listening to a conservative economists argue on the radio in DC back during the first day of the tariffs and one of the points is that our government dollars per working person going back to working people is going to shrink up as more and more dollars are being diverted and used by non working persons. But in this case it’s not an anti poor person argument but one against our aging society’s priorities. The economist pointed out that the cost of starting a family will continue to be too high as we spend more and more of our money to take of our elderly.

How many people in this country don't even make a living wage? Can't even afford to save or invest?

By 2030 which means never but also it feels like that’s what it would be with inflation.

$30/hr for NYC seems reasonable given how expensive that city is. And if it causes the uber wealthy to flee, then shouldn’t prices drop and make the city more affordable.

But then again, I don’t know what the solution is for cities like NYC to become affordable for people making normal wages elsewhere in the country.

 

I had to laugh seeing some quote from the orange face psychopath calling Mamdani a lunatic. I know nothing about him and really don't care, but when batshit crazy Trump calls anyone a lunatic I tend to wonder if they are the exact opposite of crazy.

In 1994 Trump was on the verge of bankruptcy in the wake of the collapse of the US real estate market. A consortium of Hong Kong billionaires led by Henry Cheng and Vincent Lo came to his rescue.

Cheng and Lo agreed to buy Trump's 77-acre property in New York City known as Riverside South, assume his debts and pay him 30 percent of the profits as well as fees for helping to manage the development of the site. To the extent that Trump had already spent huge $$$ developing the project which, at the time, was not yet profitable, the Chinese businessmen got in at a bargain basement price.

The project turned out to be very lucrative. After several years of profitability, in 2005, the Hong Kong businessmen sold the development for US$ 1.76 billion, at the time, the largest residential real estate transaction in New York.

However, Trump was furious, saying his partners did not consult him first before selling the project. He sued them and demanded US$1 billion in damages. Trump lost the case in a NYC court, and had to accept a 30% share in the profits from the project.
