But you know that’s not true… literally anybody can win any random game in baseball depending on a large number of variables. With the extra wild cards and everybody employing similar strategies, there’s actually a ton of parity right now around the league. The Rays can beat anybody in the AL. The Tigers aren’t trying to “buy” a championship. Even the Astros (who spend well) are still extremely cost conscious. It’s far more egregious what the “small” market teams are doing… living off revenue sharing profits, media rights, and franchise valuation to the point that attendance is an afterthought.
I'm not a money/cap guy but Crane needs to do what he can within reason to keep Framber/Pena. Looks like Pena is a future leader of the team. Framber has been a rock throughout this run. I doubt they bring Framber back though.
Like I said, as a businessman I cant blame them. I agree with what you're saying but te odds are stacked against the small market teams.
And yet we’ve seen when small market teams apply just a tad bit of resources, they’re able to put a team out. Even if it’s homegrown. It’s the knowledge that the fan base knows they’ll never spend on any star, retain any phenom, or have an owner that treats it slightly more than just a “business” (it’s a plaything/hobby). Nobody will go to the games, owners will claim “see, that’s why we can’t compete!” and casual fans will continue to blame the dodgers/yankees. It is funny that the same owners used the “we need a new stadium to compete!” argument years ago… and yet continue to spend nothing.
And this is what triggered Jeremy to hire Scott Boras because. THIS is what Crane and Brown consider "significant" If the contract ends after Pena turns 30 or before he turns 37, its a non-starter. Unless maybe it starts with a $2××,×××,××× That $105M is AT LEAST 1 full season too late Considering that is 2 arb years and 3 FA years, its WAY less than Alex got 6 1/2 years ago.
Pena, Yes. Framber, No. It will simply require too much of a commitment, and betting favorite to miss at least 162g injured over the course if any contract. Yes, he's Framber but he is also a SP. Can't dodge it forever
This RP for Philly might be the greasiest looking ballplayer I've ever seen... And his delivery seems illegal.
