I keep reading headlines from all over saying this was a major upset.

Maybe in name only, but most of the polls had Mamdani even or ahead before election day.
At least the ones i saw in my local rag.

All of this is true - but I suspect that he got the Clinton endorsement for the same reason he got the Clyburn endorsement... these guys are old, and firmly rooted in the long-term Democratic establishment and do not relate to the Democratic Party that is about to emerge with people like Mamdani and AOC leading the way.

Then again I could be completely wrong and maybe Cuomo and Clinton sit around smoking cigars and compare videos of them ****ing 25-year-old women while chuckling.

What are Mamdani's accomplishments in life? We need to elect leaders who have succeeded in their respective fields. This guy has barely had a job. Being a competent executive with actual life experience and success is very important. Huge red flag with Mamdani... in case more red flags were necessary. Bad news for New Yorkers who are stuck there... and great news for real estate agents in Florida.

This guy is going to be on Fox News every - single - day.

He is pushing to increase the NYC minimum wage $30 an hour over the next 4-5 years.

He is pursuing rent increase caps/controls.

He is going to maintain the status quo with policing and increase spending on homeless resources.

He is also going to push for free daycare for children not old enough for kindergarten.

NYC owned grocery stores and free subway and bus transportation.

It will be interesting - if he can keep the crime rate under control, he potentially could be very successful.

    This will lead to
    • Higher unemployment and less profit for small business owners due to a $30/hour minimum wage
    • Less building of housing... if the incentive isn't there for real estate developers because rents are low... which will ultimately lead to scarcity and a worsening of the affordable housing problem.
    • Worse service and options at the grocery store due to lack of competitive pressure
    • Worse service and options for public transportation due to a reduction in available funds for investment
Liberal policies are well-intentioned but simply do not work... and often (as is the case here) lead to a worsening of the very problem that they hoped to fix. Typically the voter coalition for far left candidates are people with little life experience, responsibility, or success -- single women, low income people, students and then they supplement the coalition with single issue voters focused on things like race relations, climate change, or "womens reproductive rights"... and then further supplement with people that treat their fellow coalition members as charity cases (the ultimate insult to those people)... who tend to be upper income people. It's not a coalition of people that I would ever seek advice from.

Trump's is one of the most accomplished Presidents in history:
    • Multi-billionaire status
    • One of the world's leading real estate developers (not all investments hit, but most did)
    • Long-running successful TV show in which he starred
    • Many successful (a few unsuccessful) consumer products initiatives
(and this is all BEFORE being elected President on his first time running... and in so doing, dethroning the Bush, Clinton, and Obama families from office and influence)

Dealing in the world of NYC real estate development as long has he did takes someone who is tough and razor sharp. Dealing with TV/Entertainment as long as he did takes someone who is razor sharp.

If you can't acknowledge these successes, then you need to look inwards. Or try to replicate a single one.

Which of these listed accomplishments can you replicate, friend? If none, then recognize it as an accomplishment.

Normally El Conquistator is pretty composed but for some reason this flaming little socialist brat becoming mayor has him shook.

    Pull it together bro.

This is the only part I’m curious about. I don’t know the guy, don’t care about him, it’s not my state... and yeah, it’s weird seeing people freak out over it, which maybe makes me a little more curious. But nah, still don’t care.

More positive, less political hatred. Society can benefit from RCV.

    https://fairvote.org/once-again-ranked-choice-voting-improved-new-york-city-elections/

Though the outcome may not have been changed by RCV, the campaign certainly was. Mamdani and Lander “cross-endorsed” each other earlier this month – a campaign style that Mamdani called “the politics of the future” as he stood on stage with Lander at his victory party last night. Lander shared more thoughts about the cross-endorsement in this video:

Candidates spent the final days criss-crossing the city together and campaigning alongside one another. Organizations and media outlets made ranked endorsements, offering more information on their preferences to voters – and modeling how to use the ranked choice ballot.

We even saw candidates raise funds for one another, do joint social media posts together, walk arm-in-arm, and talk about how their “opponents” could also help the city.

High turnout & little drama at the polls
In its first use of RCV in 2021, New York City saw its highest turnout since 1989 – and turnout went even higher yesterday. Based on current estimates of votes left to count, the city’s raw vote total could exceed 1 million.

While RCV is just one factor in turnout, recent research has suggested that municipal elections using RCV see 17% higher turnout and that RCV may have the strongest positive impact on youth turnout. Aligned to these research findings, nearly 25% of New York City’s early voters were first-time voters, with voters between 25 and 34 making up the largest share of all early voters.

the establishment and republicans are in uproar

MAGA is going with the racism angle as usual since he’s Muslim mixed in with the typical “socialist/marxist/*insert buzzword”

saw some talking head say that Times Square would return to the 80’s where needles were on every corner of the sidewalk and crime was rampant

I'm the same way. It doesn't mean a hill of beans to me on who New Yorkers choose as their Mayor. They can vote for who they want to, and it won't change the way things work in Houston. Right now I'm just hoping big trash comes around soon since my neighbors have everything but the kitchen sink out by the curb. I can't remember the last time big trash collected stuff on schedule.
